These guys light up simultaneously (Ignore the reverse light) every now and then. No rhyme or reason to it, has been going on for about a year now, but gets more frequent. I have a 91 3FE:

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Charging system a bit low?

Not sure if it's the same but it happened to me a few weeks ago after I came home from wheelin'...

Checked my charging system and my alternator is done... Changed it and all were good again...

Oh, and your fuel guage is broken too :D

Thanks. That might be... I do notice the fan speed drops when they come on.

Oh, and fuel gauge is one of the only things still working. :flipoff2:

This thread discusses it some: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-...tion-high-idle-cel-code-22-random-cutout.html

Basically, to quote jonheld - it is your charging system crying for help.

^^^
What he said...

Maybe it (alternator) hasn't crapped out because your battery is strong enough but soon enough it will drain until it's done and your alternator...

I would take it off, take it to O'reilly and get it checked. No cahrge for that.

Oh well, what do I know... i forgot i'm a noob not a gearhead :bang:

I bought a cheapo charging system tester at HF and paid $35. It's not the best but it does its job...

Shame you're not in Utah. I'd give you my stock alt for helping me install my sequoia alt.

Anyone aware of an alternator mod for the 3fe? When mine craps out id like to replace it with 120-180 amp

Physical space limitations. You can "upgrade" to a 1992 90 amp unit from a 1991 80 amp unit, but some fabrication is needed. You would need to move the alternator from its stock location in order to fit a larger case like the Sequoia units.

mine did that for ages before the alty died ....

I replaced the original alty with a new 100 amp unit ...

Thanks for all the advise, knew I could count on you guys.
