s***ty....

hope you get it figured out...I want to see this thing at Clayton and Poteau...

Lance called – final conclusion – no clue. They have had 2 guys on this for better than 3 days. Disassembled the entire thing - had the case out - can't figure out what is making the noise.

I’m going to just drive it and we’ll see what happens. The feeling is that everything is solid – they’ve slammed it pretty hard – it shifts really solid. Once I get a shift boot on there hopefully the clicking will not be as noticeable.

They are going to stand behind it – if or when something happens – hopefully it will not be after I’ve driven 1000 miles to wheel.

As far as Clayton... I f'd up. My parents are coming through on their way from the UP to South Texas that weekend. I'm afraid I'll have to miss this year's CHI.

Well that is s***ty...

Would have been really good to see you again Bruce.

Have fun with the folks!

Kick ass pal!!!

Great news!

Ed-

MAKE IT!

Would be great to meet you!

ENOUGH CHAT!!!

What do you have left to do?

One big issue: Atlas is leaking like a sieve. When I changed the front output from a yoke to a flange. The OD of the seal surface changed from 2 1/8 to 1 7/8. Seal no workie. Talked to Jess and he gave me a part # for the correct seal. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.

Then it's little stuff like electrical clean-up and tieing stuff away from the exhaust manifolds, Mounting the high-lift...

Nothing but a thing...

Sure enough - the ID of the seal that came with the Atlas was 2 1/4 the OD of the front flange was 1 7/8 - no wonder it was leaking

Got the new seal installed - thanks Lance and Jess!

Got started on the rest of the details list - hope to finish tomorrow.

Well, I hit it VERY hard at the CHI. All I can say is WOW!!!

I have to admit that I was having nightmares, the week before the CHI, about driving up a trail and all of my welds failing and the entire engine, transmission, and Tcase falling out from the rig...

No breakage what-so-ever. Only issuse I have are/had:

The shake down at Snake pit allowed me to flex it out and i was rubbing on some of the rear tub. Jim A. got out the vicegrips and a hammer and flattened out the reamining lip on the side of the tub. We cranked down on the coils and raised it up another 2 inches - which settled to about 1 inch. and i removed some bolts that were goint through the wheel wells. That all helped a bunch - but I still got sick of hearing the thunk or the tire lugs caching on stuff. So we dropped it off at Slim's Off-Road in Clayton (if you saw the Ultimate Adventure show when they ran Clayton - you saw Slim) and he smoothed everything out pretty well as well as cut out the remaining lip of the rear tub.

The next two days we ran very hard - no easy lines. I made every obsticle I tried - most of them with ease.

Jim had a great idea and I will put in a piece of 1/8in aluminum in the top of the wheel well to provide a smooth surface for the tire. End result - the tub is my bumpstop.

The Stock 81 LC Master cylinder is not adequate. Talking to Jason (JK Customs) he suggested a 1 Ton MC for a Chevy Truck and a adapter from ORD. I'm going to try this and hope it works - if not i guess i'll go the Hydro Boost route.

!

Love it :)

Get back out here to run the hammers and get revenge ;)

I'm glad it worked ok Bruce. I always find it a bit scary when I roll something out of the shop without even a chance to test drive it before it hits the trails. :D

Ed

Can't wait to get out with you so you can see how well it moves and how stable it is. Perfect!

It's MUCH easier than pulling out the Trig books like I used to do (and honestly, it seems to be more accurate too). You still have to spend a lot of time thinking how you want it to be setup and side issues about how to set it up - like I wanted the lower links to be lower than the driveshaft to help protect it on ledges, but it is the way to go.

I switched to Dan Barcroft and Greg Blanchette's 4 link calculator after testing it against my manual calculations on Nolen's rig, and it gave the same results (and made it 1,000,000,000 times easier to edit the model to get it "right")

Of course, you can just throw one together with lots of adjustability and dial it it after the fact too. :)

Ed
Where do you find this calculator?
I would like to know where to put my links, and what lengths for the links to go with.
Thanks,
Scott
