I'm wanting to make a set of half doors for my '85. I searched and was surprised at how few threads showed up under 'half doors' and '1/2 doors', since I remember a seeing a thread recently about them.

Anyway, post up pics of your 1/2s. I want ideas. Thanks!

Also, how do you grind out the hinges to make them quick-disconnect? Isn't the top hinge a U and a C or something like that? What about the bottom hinge?

I spoke with a buddy tonight. He's got a decent set (perfect for 1/2s) that he'll sell me for $35. Hard to beat that.

pirate and yota tech have a bunch of doors and hinge stuff.. i think on the hinge they just make the bottom hole a Slot that the door drops onto, or you can buy a set of hinges with a quick release pin
4X Innovations Online - Toyota 4 Runner + Pick up + Tacoma Quick Release Door Hinge Kit

These hinges blow.

I bought a set, and they never closed right.

Then two weeks later all the bronze bushings fell out.

Somehow I didn't notice that they were'nt painted (WTF? It's not like they're supposed to be welded to anything.) so now they're rusty.

Pirate's FAQ says you can just drill out the stock hinges and drop hitch pins in.

here's how I did mine, and the door shuts fine w/ no sag.

You can barely see the stainless steel snaps that surround the opening. I have canvas inserts with clear windows (made out of the stuff used to make Jeep ragtops) that snap into place over the openings to make the doors pretty much wathertight. These work very well. The inserts stayed on when the rig was trailered from Alabama to Moab, back to All4Fun in Salida, then back to Alabama. The original interior door latch handles are mounted on the slanted flat surface at the rear of the opening.
