HI all,

Im looking at buying a BJ73 with FRP top and want to use it without any top at all as shown in the attached picture.

Were there doors offered without the window frames ?

Is it ok to unbolt the hoop behind the drivers seat and use the vehicle with it taken off ? does it cause the body to flex ?

This is not to be used for off roading. On Hard surface only.

They are a a available in Spain. I believe they were on the bj73 with the VM motors. The front door frame tops come off with a couple bolts as well as the rear door frames. For the rear it might be cheaper to get a set of doors and cut he top off to use when top is off.

I bought new rear doors (tropical spec) for my truck. $300 each plus the upper frames ($150 each) and the glass (surprisingly only $170 for both) and the weatherstrip. All in all about $1000 US plus paint. Mot even got me the unbolting rear door latch which had no sales history and thus had never been sold by any dealer.

The rear doors can't be used if fixed style (cold weather spec) without just sawing them off. mating edge is 100% different. The front doors have provisions for the upper frames to be put on with some work. I have not done that at this point.

The roll bar can be unbolted but the inner plastic etc is also different tropical vs cold so expect some $ there.

Hood blocks new from toyota are ungodly expensive at more than $100 each.

HI guys

Thanks for your input !

rick_d what do you mean by "The rear doors can't be used if fixed style"

Actually the rear doors, I don't mind just sawing off the tops or regular doors.

The front doors however, I need to be able to fit the frames back and use the glass windows from time to time.

How can I buy a set of used or new front doors which I can use with or without the window frames ?

The BJ73 Im looking to buy, has been fitted with KJZ7X doors which do not have the little quarter window

I bought the window frames first. There was no way to modify the top edge of the fixed/cold spec doors to create the lip-seal for the detachable/tropical spec frames.

Bought the doors, painted it all and put them on only to find the glass is 3/4" shorter than fixed/cold spec. I ran lexan windows for 3 years until I got factory glass.

If you are stateside I have a set of rear doors for sale you can cut. PM me.

would be freight from Tucson...

I have front doors you can cut in Minnesota. Rear too, but need a lot of work

As I see it there's no point in cutting front doors unless you plan on removing the roll bar and folding the windshield. If you're leaving the roll bar on the all the mating surfaces of the door frame stay. That said in the summer I just run with no doors, even better.

I have a spare set of rear doors for mine that I cut and they work great, then just swap doors when the roof goes back on.

Nothing to really add to this thread, but I came across these photos the other day that are relevant to the topic, so I thought I would share them:
