Some one came onto our property in the middle of the night, opened the gate without rattling the bells
that are attached. Opened the RAV4, unlatched the hood and then STOLE the battery from the
car. :princess: is home alone, and had parked out of the line of the motion sensor lights for the first time
during the day so the car could get some of the limited sunshine to stop the moss from growing on it.
Fxxx! That is twice now that we have had thefts when I am gone.
So now we have to lock it all up every night. Not very comforting.
But special thanks to Branden at Ladysmith Auto, who is stopping be the house on his way home from
work tonight to install a new battery in her car. He will be generously rewarded with a bottle of the finest
Tequila found in the State of Texas!!
I only know, and be warned, I will do to this other person what I did to the rats.

So the new battery is installed and the truck runs. Can't believe they actually removed the battery properly
and all they had to do was tighten the battery connectors back on. Easy as I had just spent the $$ buying
new Toyota battery connectors for her car just cause it is the proper way, no aftermarket SAE junk.
Anyhow, got off easy all things considered.

Damn hate to hear of these things, you have big dogs, maybe they should run the property?

The big dogs went to new homes. And these guys were very quiet. Locked the shop tonight for the
first time ever, now forever.

Sorry to hear cruiserpilot! Glad the rest of your property and the car is ok though. I agree with Jim, step up security a bit with a camera. Also, keep an eye on craigslist/usednam for your battery. Often this can lead to the thief.

It's a series 35 interstate battery. Never id it. But I am stepping up with cameras. The cops
don't patrol, we live in such a good area. That will change now, I'm going to visit them when I
get back.
I did look at camera's, but I'll be doing 1080 HD minimum. And I've got a line on hidden. So small,
not even noticeable. I can get wireless email, so if someone in in the shop or driveway at night I get
email and copy immediately of photo. Then I'm going hunting.

Awful when such a thing happens, I moved from city to farm because fed up with it.
Today I was installing an app on android that works on any old phone: alfred home security camera: Alfred | Turn your old phones into home security cameras
only needs power and wifi, has motion sensor.
Wanted something for car trailer and this is oke but now looking for bluetooth camera connection so no data sim.
I had 6 weeks of full hd camera recording in old house but did not install it in new house: was nice to have but feeling of being observed for steeling made us move swiftly.

That is good, until I see video images of my place plastered all over the web. I have an internal security meter and app based makes me
nervous. Who owns the data collected by each device connected to the app?

First step is gate chime, so gate opens and door chime goes off. Sends the two indoor 100 pound ridgebacks into a frenzy.
Second is a motion sensor chime hidden along the fence in the driveway, same response with a door chime.
I've been looking at dashcams for the truck. Since my near miss with a #1000 Cinnamon Grizzly on the N Canol Road, which I
damn near hit on a blind corner. They have some with a feature called 'parking mode', which has an motion sensor so anything
within immediate area in front of the truck takes 30 seconds of HD video.. This would have given us video of the battery thieves
opening and then closing the hood. Irony, closing the barn door after the battery thieves leave......I know. Expensive, but
having that in the front of her truck would be good for other reasons.

Tweekers are the worst. Any chance these people "just happen to know when you are gone"? Hmmm
They did know to keep the gate bells from rattling. Our gate has a loose chain with a bunch of bells on it. That much they did know.
Usually when I'm home there is a land cruiser in the driveway. When I'm gone its gone too. Mind, 90% of the time I park in
the back shop with the cruiser when I'm home. Especially with the 40 days of rain, the cruiser would have been in the shop every
night.

That's lame bud. Can't say I've heard of anyone just stealing a single battery before...kind of heavy to be running down the road with! Next time they'll have to outrun the poochies
