h55f transmission in a '78 BJ40

I wonder whether simply using a longer handbrake cable would allow me to retain my dash-mounted handbrake lever and use everything else on the BJ42's rear diff hand braking system?

I *believe* the answer to that is yes, though I have not confirmed for myself first-hand.

So let us know how it goes, but that is the path I would take if I got enough $ to put a h55 in my '78

Not in Australia, from what I have seen. The transfer case mounted brake was retained on ARL-spec. trucks until the end of production.

Well, my 78 FJ40 had transfer case handbrake drum but this 81 BJ42 has handbrake leading to rear axle drums.. and it's obviously Aussie coz that's where I am
