Been doing some looking around for the eventual rebuild of my what i believe is an H41 (out of a 74 or 78 pig 4 speed) I've been able to find bearing and gasket kits, but nothing like gears or synchros? My 1st and 2nd gears grind when cold (may try a new fluid with a modifier when she back up and running).

Once i tear into it i would like to know if its possible to get these parts? Anyone know?

In the mean time i also need to find out what transfer case i have (hoping/guessing its out of the same FJ55 as the transmission)

The H41 and H55 share the same 1-4 gear ratios. I wonder if they're the same parts (gears, idler shaft, synchros)?

Would be interesting to find out! Dug around your thread to see if you replaced any gears ect. Looks like you said the overhaul was pretty easy?

The H41 was rebuilt by SOR, so I didn't have to dig into it too much. All I did was replace the easily accessible seals and gaskets.

Can't remember what website I was reading, but it was saying the h42 was 80ish+.

To be honest it very well could be a h42. I'm in the dark! Any way to tell the difference.

All '74+ US trucks came with H42 4-speed, the H41 was other world markets with the granny 1st gear. Not sure how you can tell them apart, the transmission changed with the introduction of the split-case but still H42 for US (eventually with extended housing when other markets got H55).

I'm betting it's an H42, will make finding parts easier for you. Would have to search on how to figure out for sure -
