Hi All, just wondering if anyone has ever installed an H151F gearbox into a FJ55. I scored one for the right price on the weekend and it has me thinking about the ease of doing a 1HDT engine swap in the next year or so. Just not sure how it'll all work with the floor pan.

By 1HD i assume you mean 1hzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. And yeah, 1HDT is turbo diesel.

It's not set in stone yet but it's what i'm thinking. The gearbox i have bolts straight to the 1HDT and if you've ever driven a truck with one then you'll learn they're a fantastic engine. Doing the UZ series conversion is pretty expensive and i hate the amount of electronics on them, plus in my experience the electronics are starting to fail. Wires breaking, clips breaking, ecu's suffering dead capacitors. Which means more costs. Just the bellhousings needed for the h151 is over 1k, plus then have to get the flywheel clutch and pressure plate. But yes, the uz would be great in a pig. I think that the 1HDT will potentially cost the same, if not less than the uz if i can get one at the right price. And as for 1HZ i'd rather have the 2f.

I went and looked at a hj47 troopy today that had a 1hdft in it with the h151f. He had done a body lift on it but man did it look good. It drove so very nice.

FZs and HZs/HDs are physically the same and, in combination with the H151F/HF(X)s, a very long combination and pose many challenges nestling into the FJ55.

2F with H55/BF1A already require shifter mods, and I'd estimate the top plate on an H15X will be 8-10" further aft, 7X specific.

With what you're describing, being a 1HD/H151, I'd bet it's an 80 specific set up, since they're the only diesels that came with the 151 and not the lower geared 150, and the longer, full time HF2A, therefore even further aft along with more electronics.

Having learned the hard way, think an HZ-T with H55/BF1A is better suited for the FJ55.
