I'm looking at the torque gain on this chart. Is it generally expected, after the addition of headers, to gain this much torque at the low end? At 2000 rpm it looks like it goes from roughly 60 to 155 ft lbs which is over 150%. Seems pretty good even on the low end.
Bull Cruiser, I don't really understand what you're trying to do. Please stay out if it and lets continue with Dougs. Thank you for your understanding. Perhaps we'll meet someday and shake hands. I'd really like to see this project come together. Please wait to see how it goes with Dougs. If they can't or won't do it then lets explore other vendors.
Okay.... I'm very sorry for contacting over 30 header companies in North America, I just had some free time on my hands. I might be leaving the group buy.....
because I found a company that makes headers in North America for the Land Cruiser but I don't know if they will pass California emission tests because they are not made in California..... However, I don't care because we don't have those dumb emission tests in FL.
this is the e-mail I received from a header company
"We manufacture headers for just about every Toyota Land Cruiser model available worldwide & we sell them in many countries, UAE is our #1 buyer. We do have headers for the 4.7 100 series & we can supply them ceramic coated or just plain mild-steel finish . The only catch is the flanges at the bottom of the headers are not orientated to bolt on to the stock downpipes , they are designed to attach to a custom free-flow down-pipe . So if you have access to a custom exhaust shop which can build custom down-pipes , no problem we have product ready to go. These headers make great power as they are designed & used in a state where emission controls haven't been passed into law yet . "
You can remove me from the list, I no longer need the Thorley's but I thank uzj100 for all his hard work..... Good Luck & I'll keep you all up to date when I get the headers and have them tuned and dyno'd.
It's more when it shifts and the total weight plus grade is too much when the RPM's drop between gears. I have plenty in 1st gear. I'm usually not going very fast going around turns and pulling out from where this lake is, but at times I do get up there in speed. I can't recall what the max speed is in LO.
Their are other times too that I feel it just pulling around town. Coming from a stop immediately to a grade and I have to stomp on it just to keep the rpm's up. Otherwise I will be creeping along. Again it's from first to second.
Regarding the headers, I don't know if an extra 10 ft-lb is enough to make a difference in that rpm range.
Well, at 2300 RPM, it shows a 20ft-lb gain, which is roughly 10%. That should be noticeable. If you tow a lot, maybe consider regearing your diffs. Gearing is a torque multiplier.
