Hello,

I believe my system is bricked. I purchased the Android 12 upgrade and installed it. All was fine throughout the day. Went to start the car and got bars on the screen that never went away. I waited for 10 minutes and nothing. Turned the vehicle off and turned it back on, and now it only goes to the OEM side. Has anyone had this issue before? My unit will no longer boot into the VLINE screen. Only the LEXUS OEM system side. Its a 2010 Lexus LS460.

Have you tried pulling the power from the unit itself? Rather than just turning the car off? Also I’d contact Grom support. They are typically very responsive.

I had this issue a couple times and completely unplugged and replugged it in and all was well, until it happened again.

I’ve contacted them several times and their go to is always “do you have the latest firmware?”

Yes, I’ve had it 6-7 months and updated firmware multiple times.

For now, I will use it and it works “ok enough” but once I find a better alternative, it’s coming out and going in the trash, way too glitchy and frustrating for how much $ it costs

Pretty disappointing

Sorry to hear about the difficulties with GROM product. As suggested above, try to unplug the main VLine VL2 unit from the 20-pin power interface cable, and let it "sit" for about 10 minutes.
Then replug it back, cycle the ignition and enter the GROM mode of your stereo.

Before the latest firmware, the unit was working fine but after the latest one I’ve needed to unplug the unit multiple times in order to get it to boot.

With each firmware update I get new problems

I’m pretty much over it
 
I will say, that most forums/facebook groups that cover the GROMs say that if you have a stable release, unless there is some known feature you are getting a fix for, you should stick with your stable release. If you know of one that was more stable, GROM will send it to you so you can flash back to it..I"m not sure if that's possible with the Android software updates, but I know they will send you older firmwares for the hardware parts.
 
I picked up a Vline and am planning to install in the new few weeks. Is there a consensus from the group or from @gromaudio

I know vendor support teams often pitch “upgrade to the latest firmware first” (I’m looking straight at you, Dell and HP), but I’d rather have a known stable version missing features than one that has them but has annoying bugs

I upgraded to the latest and greatest about 2 weeks ago on my 15 LX. Zero issues. Vline VL2

Just make sure you install it with a good “WIRED” option

I’ve been through almost all the firmware variations and it’s just plain sucks for “wireless” functionality

However, absolutely zero issues when plugged in

2010LC if that matters

We recommend upgrading to firmware 5.2, which was released at the end of January. Here is more information:

I have these in two LX570s and a GX460. Nothing but good things to say about the folks at Grom. If they'd make one for my 200 LX470 and my 80s, I'd have them in all of my trucks. Yeah, I know, the early 100s & 80s didn't have touchscreens...I still want one in there.

does CLIMATE button go to OEM climate screen yet? that was the one annoying thing

also I noticed when watching netflix on GROM if I start surfing the web on my phone it does go to Picture-in-picture mode on the GROM for some reason.

I haven't updated yet to the latest as what I'm running has been stable
