Wondering about Bluetooth while on CarPlay and rear camera.
Can you still make calls and talk while on CarPlay ? Does it needs another mic ?
Does the backup camera still auto engages ?

A microphone is included with Vline for voice commands and the factory bluetooth (if equipped) in your vehicle will engage when you make or receive a call. You can make calls with carplay, but there is a terrible echo for the recipient. That seems to be an issue with Carplay, not Vline, and will hopefully be resolved at some point. If the echo is resolved, I would turn off the factory bluetooth and use Carplay exclusively.

Backup camera works if you switch to the Vline mode before shifting into reverse when you start the car. You can also shift from park, reverse, park and reverse again to enable the backup camera. Grom is aware of this and will fix in an update.

There are some bugs to work out, but overall I am happy with the Vline.

I have been able to run the audio over BT even while CarPlay is active. I don't see much reason to do this, but it does work for sure.

And in my experience the CarPlay phone calls work flawlessly and I haven't had any complaints from the other caller- and yes there is a microphone that is installed as part of the VLine unit.

Finally, my rear camera was an aftermarket addition so it requires another device called NavTool to display on my unit (03 was pre-factory rear camera) so I have to switch "inputs" to see my rear camera when using VLine. If you watch my video you'll see what I mean. Hope that helps

which model do we order for a 2007 LX ?
GROM-VL1-LEX
I thought that 2006 and 2007 had exactly the same sound system. 200 dollars more sound a bit much.
Ignore the years in the title. You have to dig a little deeper.

If you click on the VL1-LEX3. Then click on the "Compatibility" tab. It shows "Lexus LX470 2001-2003/Toyota Land Cruiser 2001-2003".
If you click on the VL1-LEX4. Then click on the "Compatibility" tab. It shows "Lexus LX470 2004-2007/Toyota Land Cruiser 2004-2007".

The price difference is between the "shipping" unit (VL1-LEX5, that does not work in any 100 series) and the discounted "pre-order" units (that are supposed to work in certain model year 100 series).

Thanks, that's new - when I checked last week there were no compatible vehicles listed and the tech didn't know.

I ordered mine. Have no problem waiting a bit until the ship. I wouldn't even have my first LX 470 until this Saturday :p

Just gott off a chat with tech support at VLine - I'm going to need to send them pics of the front and back (along with part number stickers) on my 03 LC nav unit, head unit, and screen as they're not sure yet if the 03' LX and 03LC wavs systems are the same - he said he *thinks* the LX moved a generation ahead in '03 while the LC stayed the same as '02.

found some possibly useful info:

the table here provides NAV CD update p/n's for Lexus LX-series [ref: http://www.lexusnavigation.com/what-to-order/]

while the table here does the same for Toyota LC-series [ref: http://www.toyotaparts.metro-toyota.com/toyota-navagation-update-discs.html]

comparing tables, it looks like the 2003 Lexus LX470 NAV update CD p/n is the same as the 2003 UZJ-100... this might imply that the Lexus & Toyota OEM Navigation systems for this year (actually, for model years 2001-2003) are functionally identical, meaning that GXLee's '03 LX470 V-LINE would work in our '03 Land Cruisers

:beer::beer::beer:

these links also give instructions to determine what specific NAV system you have

I'm going to call GROM to get more info as they already have the pics & part labels from my '03 UZJ-100 black boxes

Just ordered the V-Line for my '06 LC. Hopefully all works out.

What iPhone do you have and are you using iOS 10?

1) I believe GXLee's vehicle with the "beta" gear is a GX470
2) If I remember correctly (at least on the VaisTech gear) they used the same hardware, with different interface cables, for LX vs LC

good to know - Thx

the 2003-2004 GX470's look to be equipped with GEN2/3 NAV systems, which I believe is the same as the 2002-2003 LX470/UZJ100

can anyone confirm?

So got an email back from grom today. Both apple Carplay and android auto are not yet authorised for use with the vline. They are both pending approval

Correct, it is not available on the retail version at this time. It is only available if you are a beta-tester.

any thoughts on the potential for upgrading the stock backup camera to a higher res one using the HDMI inputs on the V-LINE?

I'm not too familiar with the aftermarket backup camera scene- are there replacements that would fit nicely in the stock location and provide a clearer picture? or is the resolution more limited by the display itself, and not necessarily the stock camera?
