Yep, same here. I better like it cause 'I'm stickin with the pig" as the bumper sticker says... The swing out is welded to the bumper eh? I might be willing to trade bumpers as I have a good rear. Yours looks like it is a little beat up here and there, or is it just the pictures?

I will take some more pictures when I get home from work. Pretty sure there is a ding here or there. The swing out is fine. Trade is fine by me also.

Sorry about the crap pictures, I don't get home until after dark. I will have to take some in the morning.

More pictures

Here is some more pictures, for the record can anyone tell me why there is so much grease spread around in that last pic? Also I am guessing that line is the actuator for the overdrive, which after reading up on, I am not entirely sure I want it. I guess I would have to get a new drive shaft?

I think the "line" in your photo is either the speedo cable or e-brake cable. I don't see an OD unit in there. . . is that the front drive shaft or rear? Mine is located off the rear of the transfer case. Here's a pic. of mine and the lever on the drivers side of the transmission hump to activate it. . .

I'm not seeing any overdrive unit either...that grease is just being flung off the U-joint, perfectly normal.

Thanks guys! I am actually a little relieved that its not there, one less thing I need to learn at the moment. Next comes clutch, rear main seal and pan gasket. Is the rear main a one piece on the 72?

Changing a clutch is a big job, I would exhaust all other adjustment possibilities before I dropped the tranny...

Yes the rear main is a 1 piece seal. You will have to change it when the tranny is out. I just did mine. The clutch package with bearings was $140 and the seal was $16. Flywheel resurface was $40

Thanks,

I'm not doing it myself -- I took it by my transmission shop after I tried adjusting it to no avail and they said I could probably put it off for a while but I want to get the motor leak free so I just figured I would do this all at once and get it over with now. If I had a garage I would love to take this thing apart but I have to wait till I move and get a garage for that to happen.

Yep, that all looks normal under there to me. I'd probably just want to buy that rear bumper form you when you get yourself a replacement. Swapping probably isn't that economical given the shipping. I'm sure you can find a nice one out there.
Looks like you've got two spare tires. Hows the clutch job going?

Its yours as soon as I find one. The previous owner basically had a spare everything(new alt. belts, hoses, all kinds of goodies for taking long trips). The clutch job is going better now that you helped me find that boot (thanks) Got the engine all sealed up, rear main and such, the differentials and t-case serviced. Now I am just getting itchy to drive it, all I have left for the moment is to swap out the 31's from my 60 and she is good to go. Well, that plus some rust proofing ( which I will have a ton of questions about shortly) Just need to keep it at bay until I move away from south Texas.
