Ok I got my 4:88's today and they messed up and sent the front a spool also...I only ordered the rear spooled.:D Lucky maybe.....anyway they are not going to make me send them back.

My question. I have the long birfs up front Aisin hubs up front of course and I am going to go ahead and order the inner axles and hub gears(bobby of course) being the surprise showed up. I am sure this will cover me for breakage correct?

I have no high steer curently just how much of steering abilty am I going to loose? While I am waiting to get my new IFS box and crossover steering(high steer)? I am not planning on doing rock crushing wheeling but I would like to do some....winter is coming on:D. I just figured If I got in a tight spot all I need to do is kick he front end out of 4 wheel drive correct?:meh:

I got the little bit of shimmy I did have gone already..all I have is just a little road walk with my 35's....just enough to bug you.

Thanks fellas:cheers:

Howdy! I am running LockRights in both ends and I have to make a lot of compensation for the steering while running in 4wd. It is most noticeable on soft surfaces, and when going uphill (less weight on the front axle). I would think that with double spools which will not kick out and forgive any difference in wheel speed from side to side, you will be going very straight most of the time, whether you want to or not. I would sell the second spool, and replace it with a selectable locker or a limited slip. Just my humble opinion. John

If you mean unlocking one hub.

even if you un-lock one side it still does NOT allow for differentiation.

And all you're doing is allowing more torque to one joint, IMO increasing its chances of breakage

If you mean going to H2 for a tight turn.

Yes, you have the traction for it. Yes, it will free the front. But with the geared TC, it might have a bind on it, and given the position you might find yourself in it might be extremely hard to take out of H4/ L4

I'd hold onto, or sell that front and get me a TRD or some other type of diff. I like spools, but they belong on the back where no joints, and/ or the angle of them, make breakage harder.

That is what I was afraid of....well looks like i will be sending one back to Trail gear or they will be sending me spider gears or a lock rite:D

I really want locked on both ends:grinpimp:

Well I meant taking it out of 4 wheel drive in a pinch but if you guys think that the transfer might bind with a spool up front.....I dont want that:p

it will bind without a spool in the front.

I just meant that there are places that won't give you the room to back and pull-up so you can relieve it and get it into H2.

hello , i brought this back from the dead because, I might be buying a 85 runner , but the rear is spooled , and it will be a DD , is that a problem on the street. thanks

Howdy! Spools allow absolutely NO slip between the left and right tire when going around a turn. AT a minimum, it will make your tires chirp on turns and increasing tire wear. It is more likely that on hard surface, especially on sharp turns, it will make lots of noise and cause it to not steer acurately. It will also put lots of extra stress on the axle parts. You might be able to trade it to someone with a trail rig. John

x2 on inkpot's post...

What generally makes a spool in the rear livable is constancy. Forward or reverse, left or right, some power, no power... It will always handle the same.

The tighter the turn, the more your rear axle will hate you for it...

thanks for a quick response , I would have to have a shop remove the spool and put something else in, because Ive never worked on diffs before , any one know what the cost would be .

Rather than pay a shop to remove it, I think you'd better off finding an open 4 cyl diff, they are cheap, usually $50 or less. I know I've given a few away. Then if you have no plans to use the spooled diff, you should be able to get some decent money for it, since it's already setup and ready to install.
