Hopefully this is an appropriately place to ask this question, if not, I apologize!

As the title suggests, looking for a good/reputable shop for a 100 series LC somewhere in and around Victoria.

Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks :) Are you a mechanic or just mechanically inclined? Lol

You're welcome!

I'm not a certified mechanic, no. Just mechanically inclined, and too cheap to pay people to fix my cars for the last 20+ years, haha.

BTW, thought I’d mention it here since we are talking shops.
Brian Roberts Auto Electric lost their repair shop, it was sold. So no longer able
to actually work on trucks. Bummer of the week. They are the best Land Cruiser
Auto Electric repair people I’ve ever met still.

BRAE have been around forever, and are excellent. I hope they figure something out.

MAC’s auto electric has been great to me also. Very reasonable prices and I’ve never had problems with anything I’ve got from him. I’ve used and abused the starter he built for me for 25 years and it’s still going strong.

@tronman - You visiting or moving here? We’re getting together Tuesday night up in Duncan.

Neither actually.. haha. I'm considering buying an '00 LC that is there. I am in Toronto... Unfortunately, lol. Was just hoping to have a trusted shop look at it to help me decide if it's worth shipping a 22 y.o truck with a quarter million miles ;)

I am hoping to move my family to BC within the next two years though... That's part of why I want the LC ;) I'll come to some future meets for sure!

Basically, if they can’t provide decent maintenance records then it’s problematic even for a shop.
just ask for pics. Like 40-50. Everything, interior and exterior. Not 10 shots from the side at various
angles. Good luck.

He does have some records and provided some decent photos and actually another very helpful gent on here actually went and had a look (for himself) and he was the one who told me about it.

It's mostly just for my own anxiety about buying a truck without driving it and shipping it across country. I think I've decided if shipping is reasonable and he sells it closer to the price I'm looking for... I'll probably buy it. Otherwise I'll wait for a local sequoia or lx470. Unfortunately I'm a total novice with this kinda stuff.. hopefully sticking around here will teach me a thing or two

I think I know the truck you're looking at.

Why not consider one of the low km imported 100 series from Japan? RHD is not a big deal; sort of convenient jumping out on the sidewalk side of the car in fact!

I’d consider how the price of airfare and fuel to drive it 5000 km compares to the cost of shipping it. Also, if you can spare 5-7 days from your schedule to make the trip.

This the rig?

I've considered that too... Idk in my brain breaks when I think about driving RHD, lol. I'm sure it would be fine when I got used to it though.. but doesn't the insurance premium go up? My insurance is already pretty expensive because I've only had my G (full license)for about 3 years

With auto it's not a big deal. I was used to mine after the 15min drive home when I bought it. Took me a little longer to get used to wipers vs. signal lights as they are on the opposite side.

I had a manual trans RHD for a bit, and never really liked that. Too many years done shifting with my right hand.

I’ve never insured a RHD, but I’ve heard they are a bit more.

Driving wise, it’s not a big deal. I drove Comercial truck that had both LHD and RHD… some days I’d alternate between the two every other house. If you’re uncomfortable driving, I’d not recommend it, but I’d not worry about it if you are comfortable.

I’ve messaged a friend who knows the seller to see if he knows anything about it.

Although I have to wonder about anyone who’d choose a defender over a cruiser. ;)

I don’t know if I’d go RHD for a gasser that’s 5500 more. It’s also two years older.

The one he's looking at has 253,000 MILES (407,000 km). The JDM imports are 100,000 km ish. To me that's worth paying 25% more.

Not sure about 100 series RHD in Ontario; but my 70 series RHD costs around 800-900 a year to insure here if I remember correct. Certainly not significantly more than it would be if LHD anyhow.

Awesome, thanks. He seemed like a good dude, and as I said another member here went and looked at it and said it was pretty good, but he already has one so he passed on buying.

As for RHD.. maybe I'll look into it a bit more, heh. There's a nice one in Windsor, ON that looks pristine
