Golden Crack vs ARB front bumper?

So what if the ARB drags? Lockers and applied throttle will cure that.....if you aren't afraid of scratches. :crybaby: Show us what that 80 suspension can do. I can take pics like that in the Safeway's lot downtown. Those 100 series pics could be from the dirt pile from the grading at the tract home site.

Bring both and spend the week.......:D

We'll be there Tues PM so we have Wednesday to look around. I'll find some rough pavementso I can get some 100 off-road shotts. :)

I've seen this before. This is that new-fangled "Darwin Counterweight" that everyone's talking about. Interesting. Apparently, the guy that gets run over grabs on to the wheels while he's screaming pure blood and that helps keep the Cruiser upright. Nice.

I was there when that photo was taken. This truck went up after I did...

Your statement, while cute, seems to imply that you likely do not know of what you speak...

You're right, I wasn't there, but taking the photo without context, it seems that UNDER THE DAMN TRUCK is probably the last place these gentlemen should have been. Was there not a long tow strap that maybe three or four people could have held onto to keep the nose of this Cruiser earthbound? Again, I don't know the context of the photo, so maybe the camera was tilted and the truck is actually safely parked in a WalMart parking lot. Maybe it's photoshopped. Maybe I'm an idiot and being underneath a moving truck on nearly vertical terrain on a dangerous obstacle is the safest activity known to man.

Please take the above sentences with a giant grain of salt. I'm a libertarian. If somebody wants to take their life into their own hands (cough-unnecessarily-cough), who am I to tell them otherwise?

I am wondering what this picture of hells gate has to with the subject of John taking his truck through golden spike. For reference the truck was not moving at this point, nor was it going to. We did have a winch set up at the top of the hill(hells gate) if needed. The truck moved after the person that slipped moved out of the way. the 80 series can crawl very slowly if needed and is set up right with the right driver, as was this truck. any more coments from a rookie? Who's collection is this any way, I want a picture of that awsume truck waving to the gathering? later robbie

It's got nothing to do with the subject of John taking his truck through Golden Spike. Sorry for the threadjack.

If the truck was not moving, nor was it going to move, why is there a guy hanging from the bumper?

The winch at the top of the hill ain't gonna help the guy that gets thrown off the bumper if the truck does a backflip.

I didn't realize that the guy under the truck had slipped. There were enough pics of him under there that I got the impression that he did it on purpose. But, the fact that he slipped and went underneath the truck could be a good indicator that he probably shouldn't have been there.

I'm sure the guy driving is a fine driver, I was just pointing out what looked, at least to me, like a bad decision on the part of the two guys playing counterweight. One that might have been played out more safely. One that, had I been the driver and the onlookers been my club or my friends, I'd hope to God they'd drag my ass out of there and tan my hide. If pointing out hubris is the behavior of a rookie, then I hope I stay a rookie forever. Don't let the low number of posts fool ya, I've actually driven a trail or two.

Don't get me wrong, they weren't endangering anyone but themselves, and I respect that. I just wanted to poke fun at the "What Not To Do" quality of the pic.

Sorry to disturb your discussion, gents.

Killer pic. After seeing it, I keep having the image of that chick rolling her TJ down the hill.

They righted it and drove it up and out later, but I'd say it's gotta be much more comfortable in a nice heavy, long wheelbased 80 series than a Heep. Watch the video and it's easy to see that at the angle the 80's at, he's still got it well under control. His buddies are just spotting and helping him lay out his line.

Ok so where are all the pictures of this person under the truck, I onnly see one. Who's collection is it that you are borrowing this picture from? That may answer why there is so many pictures of on instant of one run(fast frame rate, etc). I am only pointing out a rookie in that you are using one thing to point out another. Start a thread on the subject you wish to talk about instead of breaking a thread to take something out of context. What is HUBRIS any how? never heard of the word, please explain?
tan your hide for rushing out to help, instead of protecting ones own ass. Well to each there own, Yes a strap would be a good thing, as would of a good spot to keep the driver more on line. But hey, People do what they do. As a learing lesson it could be done differently, and maybe will in the future if this part of the run is open this year. Only time will tell.
Future reference, start a thread on something you want to bring up. What you started has nothing to do with the thread or 80 series content. Take it to the chat section. later robbie

That was a scary day in Hell's Gate. It had just rained and was super slippery. When the tire went up, Seto grabbed the slider and lost his footing, and went under. It was a sobering moment, but he extracted himself in an instant. As I recall, Robbie was very careful not to move the truck in that instant.

Now with that out of the way, I want to see Shott's 100 series poser truck in Moab. That will quiet the critics. The 80 series will only encourage the mob...

Isn't there a forum for 100 chit-chat? :flipoff2:

I can't believe I read through this worthless thread :flipoff2: But that last pic is pretty damn cool!

Dude,
It's not about a threadjack or disturbing a discussion...it's about jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts.

I don't disagree that based solely on the photos, it looks like a dangerous situation, but in actuality, it wasn't quite as dangerous as it looked.

As Cruiserdrew mentioned, the person under the truck was only under there momentarily and was able to quickly extract himself. Once the two guys had the cruiser stabilized, then moved to a safe position. It was a wet, slippery course due to some of the rain we had earlier that day. As you looked at the photo, the PS side of the truck had been ON the slope on that side -- it had just slipped off and as the truck moved forward, it started to tip backwards -- that's why the two guys came running up -- it was to stabilize the truck momentarily.

For the record...yes, it was as steep as it looks...

Robbie - I'll PM you with the link to the pics.
