I’m looking to put a trip together for some time in November. My schedule is pretty much wide open, but Let's plan on the 17th.
This is an awesome hike with great views, history and just the right degree of challenge for a day hike, and I think November is the perfect month for it. You’ll definitely want to be in decent shape, but you don’t have to be in “Scott” shape. We’ll most likely follow the same course we did two years ago. This hike will take most of the day and is about 11 miles FWIR. Here’s a link to the last trip report which will answer many questions you may have if you haven’t done this hike before:

Let me see what I can do. I have been wanting to do this for a while. I may have to take a few runs up Cowles Mtn to prepare..

When your there checking things out just stay off the tracks, bridges, and tunnels those are defined no trespass zones.

Still on the fence with this one, but am trying to make it work. I'm in pretty good shape, but not in Scott good shape. I really wanted to get some gear and do a few prep hikes, but I'm running out of time.

Just do it!

I may be doing Viejas again before the big day. If so, that'll be great practice for you if you want to tag along...

Just a few more days to go! I was really sick for over a week and afraid I wasn't going to make this trip. So happy I've been feeling better! On the return trip I'm thinking we could mixi it up a bit with some interesting sights and stops by cutting through where the old railroad workers camp is. We can also check out the village site and rock art pictographs at Indian Hill. For those who haven't been there yet it would be a great addition to the hike.

I just hiked up Cowles Mountain this morning in preparation for this. The views out west where very hazy but looking east I could see all the way to Santa Rosa Mountain and Toro Peak. Lookin' forward to this weekend!
