Just got my gearbox back and installed from West Texas (Matt is the man there - he and and his wife just had a new baby) and it works great.

satchel: wish you were closer, would love to come, help and learn for myself how to do what you are doing. I have been looking at learning the skill of torching and welding. Never have done it.

SLCFJ62: you are just an hour away from me. Am in Heber City

Muddogbob, that is a great question and honestly I don't have a clue at the moment how that will affect shifting in low gear, but you are correct about using the AA adapter for the VSS. I have been with others driving in 4 lo with the 5.3 and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

I am trying to take off the rear driveshaft and the nuts won't budge at all. Has anyone broken a bolt trying to take this off. If so, how much trouble would I be in? I've got a long breaker bar on there currently and it isn't moving at all. The front came off with no trouble.

Well, it looks like I've just about got her all apart and ready for the pull which will happen either tomorrow night after work or some night shortly after. If anyone in Denver is up for the challenge, I'd love to have the extra hands!

Good to know! So the 4l60 can be held in 1st or 2nd gear just like the a440? How is the engine braking in 1st with the 4l60e?

Yea you can go 1st or 2nd either one locked, then its 123 no overdrive, finally drive.

The 4l60e engines brakes really well in my opinion. I wasn't really expecting much but was pleasantly surprised at how well it brakes in first. I have a corvette servo and a custom made shift kit on mine. I don't know if that makes a differance from stock in the engine braking aspect but it really slows you down when your in 1st and 4lo. The other thing with the auto even crawling is a fine without ultra low gears. I'm not heavy into rock crawling but if its in the way on a trail even if theres a way around i'm probably going to try and go over it and with 35s and 3.73s and it will crawl as slow as you want.

The torque converter is essentially your cluth and thats completly hydraulic so you really arent burning clutches or anything either. As long as you keep it cool you can really beat on it. The torque converter really makes up for low gears.

I would like to go with some 4.10s just for towing but honestly it offroads great.

I noticed it seems like everyone puts their computer on either the fender or under the back seat or something. Is it so much bigger that it won't fit back in the glove box, or is there some other reason for this?

I put mine behind the plastic panel in the passenger footwell and ran the harness through the firewall where ther was already a hole. There are a number of things in there that had been disconnected or circumvented prior to adding FI to my rig, (like to stupid dinger to tell me that my key was in the ignition) so I just tossed them.

See ya

Got the engine/tranny/tcase out tonight. Seems like it went about as smoothly as it could have. I'll post more pictures of the actual pull later.

A huge thanks is due to Art, Elliott and Jeremy for coming through and helping an amateur like me get a little closer to the 5.3 dream!

I guess I'm committed now. Time to start cleaning!

Finally got the pictures from my neighbor of the engine pull. There were a lot but unfortunately a lot of them were pretty blurry. Good shot of my bald spot though.

Got the 5.3/4L60E in today. They didn't give me the nice "Vortec" plastic on top but otherwise it looks ok. I'll have to change out the throttle body and oil pan as well.

Jealous!

Too many clean hands in this pics lol.

What do you have planned for the engine mounts ?

What did the engine/tranny run you ?

Looking around for a setup myself..

Our hands were plenty dirty I assure you.

I'm getting engine mounts from advance adapters.

Engine and tranny were 2k. I'm a little mad at the moment actually because I was told it would come with all front accessories, but as it turns out there is no A/C compressor. I'll be talking with them tomorrow.

Make sure you know all the parts you have to get. The engine and tranny are the cheaper parts of the conversion compared to all the adapters and small stuff. I have yet to buy any of it.

Sweeeet. Let me know if you need a hand again mounting the new one back up! I may be able to actually drive the 60 over this time.

Awesome! let me know if you need any help on anything!
