A couple years ago I was replacing the rear hatch glass on my old '95 80... I had two pieces of good glass from old hatches and bought a new gasket from McGeorge Toyota. So I checked with a few auto glass places here in Escondido and ended up going to Low Price Auto Glass on Andreasen Dr off of Mission Ave. Services - Low Price AutoGlass - https://www.lowpriceautoglassescondido.com/services/

They had the best price and were using the correct primer and gasket adhesive/sealant (Sika Primer 207 and 3M 08690). It's that primer and adhesive / sealant that makes it not rust out again in the future. My understanding as well is that in a serious accident with air bag deployment or roll over, the adhesive keeps the window from blowing out. I'd previously done all of the prep work beforehand, so all the shop needed to do was prime the metal and install the glass then add the 3M adhesive. Some shops I called wanted to bypass the adhesive so it's easier to change the next time. Due to a breakdown in communication between me, the sales person, and the workers in the shop at Low Price Auto Glass they actually did manage to install the glass initially without sealant/adhesive... So I asked them remove the glass and start over with the voodoo liquor potions... So, trust, but verify... They did manage to drip some of the primer onto the tailgate and rear bay carpet in the process though; it is pretty wet stuff and someone should have put down some protective plastic, rags, cardboard, something to catch those drips. Lesson learned... this stuff does not come out of the carpet... ever...

I also considered Grace Auto Glass nearby which seemed like a clean well run shop, but their price was a higher and my recollection is that the owner seemed a bit put off by my insistence on how the job was to be done (not a customer is always right kinda guy...).

I presume front glass installation is similar to rear... A series of three good videos on the process for the 80 rear glass can be seen at
