Hi all, the last time some of you had seen my 80 was at the wrenching weekend. At that time I had some primer on it, and it really looked pretty bad. So I am currently getting on it to get all the bodywork and paint/raptor liner done. I am hoping to be complete with the body by the time SMORR comes around. This thread will be nothing as detailed as Kelly's build thread, but just thought I'd share a few photos of progress.......

Ooo I like the front fender/flare w/ the black - looks nice.

I've got to take my front grill and headlight trim off have it de-chromed and then either re-chromed or blackened.

Tim, did you blacken your front grill, too?

Yes. I cut the center grill plastic out, did some fiberglass work on the inner edges of the grill. Now I have some flat expanded metal I need to make a frame for, cut and make the grill insert. It will all be black too.

Cool. I really like the look of Raptor. You have done awesome work!!

For those who have not done the raptor on body panels, can you descibe the steps to prep the panels for Raptor???

What paint did you use on the hood?

I am looking to do something similar on my 80' hood to hide the sun fade paint.

I saw something called john deere blitz black, is that similar?

Thanks,

I want to see updated pics, too, Tim!! :)

I also need to find a cheap and reliable anti-rust primer/paint.

Jamie-

Primer/paint for what? POR 15 is great for frame and unseen areas.

Sorry, have been really busy with....well everything but my 80 lately! Haven't really gotten anything else done on it since. Just driving it as is. I have decided to raptor liner the center of the roof though, and when I do I could do a short write up on the steps to get it ready.

Tim - looking at a certain, local, club-members 4Runner :) - - but also just generally speaking for the older 1st Gen 4Runners w/ rust on bodies.

I need to POR15 a few rust holes, then hit it with a rust-preventing primer, then weld the holes up, then cover all bare metal. Was also thinking about generally nuking surface rust on an interior, then priming it then using the Cruiser Crap sound deadener and finally carpet or something.

:)
