this the the toyota that i bought a couple of months back i just had it go in and have the rust damage repaired and painted black and i am buying a 7.5 in. suspension lift from all-pro offroad and i am going to have 35'sfor meats i was wondering how fast it would go on the road and if it wouldnt atleast reach up to 70 mph after the lift and tires what i could do to get the speed up with as little money possible it just has a 22r motor

20/22R Hybrid if it's carbed... I'm still fooling with mine, but it looks like a colder plugs and mid-grade are now the norm.

And they love a cam and header... Or so I've been told...

Otherwise I also see 5:29's in your future.

Why not just get lockers and.... never mind.

Howdy! My 85 has 35's, but it is regeared to 5.29. At 3000 rpm it is running around 70. Definitely can go faster, but don't want to. With stock 4.10 gears, you should be able to go 80+ if the engine is in decent shape. John

on flat roads, or down hills not a problem, any hills even small ones you can not tell in any other vehicles, you are going to notice a drastic slow down, that is if you are running the stock 4-11's, i have 33" with stock gears and mine does what i described above, so 35's are probably going to be worse.

Here's an idea: SLOW DOWN.

With 7" of lift and 35" tires, that truck will have a very high CG, and is very prone to rollover. You simply shouldn't be going that fast. I've had mine up to 75 a few times by accident and it's kinda scary.

If you want to go fast, buy a Mustang.

And I agree with KLF and Toy4xfun.

...and, uhm... 7.5" of lift? It looks you can run 35's now? Assuming you've already got 33's, the contact patch will be the same, only you'll have 1" more of axle ground clearance, Clarence...

Not a good plan if you ask me...

FWIW, I'd get some traction first and see how that goes, for you got a truck that's more at home at Monster Jam...

speed

If you live in southern California it's kind of needed at times. With that said I do drive my 40 on the fwy at 60 mph, and people just go around you. People drive so fast down here and are pretty aggressive at times, it's nice to "be able" to go faster than 55-60.in certain situations. I am hoping for better out of my 85. As it comes with 35"s and 4:88s i am hoping it will do better than my 40. The part that kills me in the 40 is if someone slows me down going up a hill on the fwy, it takes forever to get back up to speed.... Either way having 5 gears will be great.:steer:

you dont need 7.5 inches of lift..........gawd thats what mine has...and you can sit under the damn thing almost.

I have 35's with 4:88's, 22r motor
weber card......bla bla bla and it does pretty good but Iwish I had 5:29s sometimes but only on thoes mountain roads that seem to never end

I live in Ca drove my fj40 on freeway all the time doin bout 65 if people fly by you or get mad do this :flipoff2: thats what I did or swerve at them a little that will scare the crap out of them. I think the min speed on the freway is 45 by law if I remember someone told me that when I moved here.

lol

I have 31"s and stock gears so maybe I am doing 65. I think it makes people more angry when you have a BWM or something like that and you drive 60.. Either way, my 40 has helped me with my road rage, I can no longer rage. I just relax and take it easy in the slow lane.

To address the question, I agree that 7 1/2 inches is more than most people need.. I think you can do some pretty SERIOUS off-roading with a 4" lift and 35s. In an ideal world I imagine that lift would be for full width axles and 40" tires.. just my opinion.

If you have a gen II mini truck, 7" of lift is not a lot. I have 3" body and 4" suspension, plus 2 or 3 more from larger tires. I still have tire/body contact at the trailing edge of the front fenders at full lock with compressed suspension, like hitting a big bump. I'm 5'9", and my driver's eye level is the same as my standing eye level. It is the same height at my 80 series, and it is shorter than my 55. To answer the OP's original question, it will be noticabley slower to accelerate after the 35's are put on the rig. It should have enough power to run 70+ if the engine is in fairly good shape/tune. BTDT. We did the lift and tires on my truck long before we got the 5.29's installed. John

My 200k miles 22re with 5.29's and 35's will run about 85 on flat ground @ sea level. Slows down to around 40 on a 6% grade. My last truck with 4.10 gears drove about the same speed.

Keep it tuned up, get a good exhaust on there, and you will be fine.

...I think the min speed on the freway is 45 by law if I remember someone told me that when I moved here.

I know for a fact that the minimum speed here in Santa Rosa, Ca, is: Prius.

On a less light note, feel free to do 70 with 35's and a 7" lift, just get great insurance.
I would argue that you consider practicality before shelling out for those mods. you're looking at ~20 inches of lift* in a truck with a high, nose-heavy drivetrain with some pretty underbuilt steering components. Which, don't get me wrong, can be fun, but how much will you wheel, and how much of that wheeling requires such radical numbers?

That kind of work seems to me more at home on a dedicated wheeling/ trailer queen over a Highway/DD.

I see folks all the time who raise their trucks up higher than neccesary, and the only rocks they see are in the asphalt, so in your position, before doing this, I would ask myself if I would ever use such mods.

* my math is - half the tire diameter + lift. I may be wrong, but that's all I can muster on four hours of sleep.

The original factory tires were likely something like 28" to 29". Going to 35" tires only adds 4" to 3.5" lift respectively.

For what its worth; I could barely hold highway speeds with 31's and 4.10's.
Now, with 5.29's and 37's i can hold highway speeds for the most part.
I dont want to be the odd man out, but I doubt you will hold highway speeds without modification to your drivetrain. Be it lower gears or a larger motor!

Now, on to the lift... I lifted my truck 4.5~5" and i can fit a 37" tire easy. No more though. The words 'cheap' make me think you either need to know how to build/weld yourself, or learn the word "expensive".

You can fit 35's with minimal fender trimming. I would recomend regearing and if it doesnt have high steer, convert to high steer.

For some reason, i dont think you have hills in kansas! :flipoff2:

And for proof, I have attached a picture of holding 74mph, uphill, with 37" tires.*

*taking pics and driving leads to the same punishment as texting and driving. If your state has laws against it, DO not attempt it.

PO hacked it to install aftermarket gauges, that didnt work. So i unhooked it totally and installed mechanical gauges. The Temp gauge is either cold, medium, or hot. Its not hooked up anymore as well, so I guess it shows you how much the stock one is inaccurate. Or they hacked that one as well and it runs off someone else.
