Oh, and my Valve Cover gasket is leaking again, same spot, or could be the dizzy o-ring, crappies....

Nice write up.

That looks awesome. I'm glad you want to go back as I will be joining if I'm free. And I thought you had the REI camp kitchen bag. Glad it came to good use.

Scott, I bought that kitchen 10 mins after you showed me yours! It is perfect for me, and I figured out how to level it with pieces of wood so all the food doesn't end up in a corner of the pan. Well, all the eggs, since that is all I can cook;)

Nice. This is on the short To-Do list when we return from Germany. Close to the house and yet secluded enough to get away. Glad I ran across your post.

How long are you out there? I may have more when you come back. I am thinking about starting off where I finished last week, drive another 100 miles into it again. Sometime. In the near future.....

Wow, fantastic.. Thanks for the detailed report.. I'd like to give that a shot some time..

The adventure continues. I figured lets do this trail again before the end of the world. Jonathan Biebesheimer (Isuzu Trooper with Toyota badge for extra traction) and I left Friday morning. We mapped and knew as much as we can the road closures and fire locations, and off we went!
Trail looked amazing. There was a lot of smoke in areas, other areas where clear. Kept my handy HAM handy and tuned to emergency stations for any news.

The Moon was huge on the first night, but smoky and hazy. We could see it, and decided to camp way off in a secluded and remote area. That way if we died in the fire all would be lost.

The new coleman grill/stove was awesome. The grill side cooked sausages nice and even, the stove top side boiled water quickly. The flame control is 100% better than the regular coleman stove. Moving up on my culinary skills! Beats MRE's

Next morning we drove by areas that had fires 5 days ago, and smoke was still coming out. There were Rangers everywhere, working their asses off in there. It was a real treat and we wished them to stay safe.
At one stop, since roads where closed and we couldnt get to parts of the trail, we chatted with some of them. They gave us ideas for where to go that would be open and safe, but challenging.

This is an unmarked camping area, Jonathan is there to show the height of the rock face. it faces out to a valley, amazing views but hazy that day. Maybe fit 2 trucks in there.

We ended the day in Tray Mountain Road. There was not a lot of traffic, which was good. But we did encounter a large group of overly feed and drunk out of their ass Appalachian American Natives. They look and acted a little aggressive, we smiled and drove on, told them "there are not the droids you seek". They had taken over the one camping area over the hill after the difficult climb. And they had s*** everywhere.
Later on we found a trail of motor oil, and on the other side a 2WD chevy s-10. Driver was passed out drunk, passenger was sitting on top, saying they where all right. Smiled and drive on.

We drove much further down the hill to the water facing camping area. It was completely empty, we had 15 mins of light left, but worth it to drive to the ultimate campsite, this little island on the far side. Empty!! So we camped there.

Second night was cold, and cold. But burgers!!
I used the Mr. Heater with a 20lb tank, ran on high most of the night and my condo/tent stayed nice and warm. Freaking Bahamas warm!

This is an amazing site, hard to show on pictures so here is a video

Last day, we decided to go down the challenge trail in reverse. It was less challenging but still cool. But we did see the carnage the big group of assholes left, there were signs everywhere about zero fire tolerance, these fookers where burning pallets.

Further down we saw this beut. Based on the evidence in the cabin, and in the bed, we figured he voted for Hillary.

We went down further into an area with unmarked trails. Well, we marked them! on top of one of them, there is the most incredible mountain top campsite. Larger one, and with incredible views all around. Best I can recon, it was near or on Smith Mountain in Anna Ruby Falls Scenic Area. But keep it quiet. We did encounter 2 brothers (we chatted with them) on KTM bikes, and wondered how the hell we got up there as jeeps dont come up the trail. :)hehehehe

Jonathan took over 100 photos and videos, I didnt take many. When he gets them to me I will post the link for anyone interested. I saw some of my truck going over the obstacles, they are insane. But it felt dramaless from the driver sit, just drove up.....

Water level was very low everywhere. But we made the most of it. We saw a Chinnok with a giant bag lowering it to the lake to pick up water, it was an amazing display of skill by those pilots!
