Dave, the only trouble using the air duct is losing that duct outlet for the AC.

Yeah, I realize that. One mickey mouse method is to route the air outlet via the hole where the power mirror switch is, since I don't have power mirrors anyway. Some sort of grille can be made to go over the hole. Besides, a gauge mounted in that position would probably be covered by the steering wheel rim anyway.

Bad idea, guys. Just forget it, OK? :)

Figured a continuation of this posting would keep all the info together…

I wanted some gauges quickly when playing with shimming the waste gate on the BJ74, so got some Autometers, and mounted them on top of the BJ74 dash pod. Stone convinced me there was room for gauges in the pod, as he investigated and installed his boost gauge, and pre-drilled the hole for his pyrometer. I wanted to change my gauges from the Phantom to the Z-Series, so took the opportunity to spend the day moving the gauges from the individual pods to the BJ74 dash pod.

For anyone contemplating this mod, it can be done, but is very tight. Measure 3 times before cutting the holes of the gauges. You need to remove the interior/exterior temp set-up, remove the on/off light switch for the altimeter (I bypassed this switch and the light now comes on with the rest of the dash lights). Then you have to cut out the entire rear section of the white plastic assembly on the temp side. There will be some other minor trimming required, depending on which gauge manufacturer you go with. Again, measure lots and cut once. The white plastic guage holder on the right is stock, and the left side has the rear cut out.

Aesthetically it looks much better, however the gauges are harder to read. I prefer to have the gauge faces pointing right at the driver seat. There is no room in the temp side to angle the gauges. This will have to do for now, till another better idea comes up. I wanted to save the altimeter, so that constrains things.

Cold Taco, if you send me your photo I will post it up. I don't recall what your looked like, but do like the tilt/point idea.

I like the idea of using an alimeter pod, anyone have one lying around? LOL

You did a pretty good job there, Greg. I think that you agreed that the ISSPRO EV series gauges that I'm using have better visibility due to the convex glas lens and low profile bezel. I'll post up a pic of mine when I have my pyrometer installed, as there is just a blank hole beside the turbo gauge at this point. I mounted mine substantially higher though, because I just noticed that I can still read the "THERMOMETER" logo on yours and mine is almost completely gone from the hole that I cut for my pyrometer.

Looks 100% better than the original pods IMO. :)

Hi Stone. Yes, the ISSPRO Enhanced Visibility guages are a much easier read if the gauges are not faced to the driver. The bezel on the Autometer stick out quite a bit, interfering with the gauge face when viewed from the side.

I would like to see some Westach gauges up close as I can't tell for sure from the pics if the bezel is flush.

If I were to do it again I would investigate Westach, and likely end up with ISSPRO IV gauges. I am not unhappy with the Autometer from a mechanical point (at least not yet), simply bezel design.

Cutting out more from the top of the white plastic inner pod allows a higher mounting for sure...I think we are about 1/8" apart, as mine is just touching, and yours is 1/2 way through?

One just sold on eBay. I think it went for about $75. I use a BD X monitor. Small, digital, and has all 3 gauges built in. Look at BD exhaust website, then search for xmonitor.
no problem at cold temp.??

Hi burger,
Was looking for Ideas on light pods for the bonnet of my F40. And the search thing brought your gauge pod up. Looks a neat job! What web-site did you follow for the fiberglass quick learn session?
