I just tried to do this. Got the 819-5565 (40.00 each), and they WILL NOT FIT into mine. The body of the gas strut is too large in diameter. I have a 1970. Not sure if the stock struts got changed along the way by Toyota or if NAPA changed the gas struts. Can someone who has done this, PLEASE measure the gas strut diameter for me?

Thanks
Shawn

Exact same problem here. I wrote down the part number about a year ago, purchased them today and found out they will not fit inside the tube. They must have changed them.

Disappointed.

OK, I've found some that will work but the minimum purchase is 6 ($150). Price for the pair is $50 so I need two more people who want to replace their concussion inducing springs with gas springs.

PM me or reply here if you are interested.

I am interested. Are you sure they will work?

Shawn

Is anyone ever sure with something like this? I'd appreciate a second opinion. Here is what I am looking at:

cylinder diameter: 0.59"
stroke: 6"
extended length: 17"
compressed length: 11"
50 or 60# force

By my eye it looks like it will work (this is for inside a gutted stock cylinder application).

Anyone else interested? Please don't make me pay $150 for this mod.

One you get them, and know they fit, I will take a set..

NAPA Part Number in post #13. Just did this last weekend on my 73. Worked perfect. Just unscrew the grey plastic mounts on each side of strut and it will slide right on in.

The body of the gas strut is too large to fit in my OE struts. Can you give me the size of the strut body you bought?

Yes. However, my truck is at another mudder's shop. I will post up the the specs later this week. Oh wait....I may have the Napa part number at home. I will verify the part number later tonight.

I do not know if it makes a difference, but my liftgate is from a 7/72 (1973).

I purchased 6 of them today and should have them in a week. I will confirm that they work and then anyone who wants a set is welcome to them.

Shawn gets the first set if he still wants them.

Part number confirmed: Napa #819-5565.

They must have changed the supplier recently because there is no way the two with that part number I have in my garage currently will work in this application. They are generic struts - not referenced for any car in particular so I assume they just spec them on length and pressure.

Here ya go. Body diameter is about 18mm. Internal stock strut diameter is about 16 mm.
