Well, since the Scepter can fiasco was resolved with decent results, its time to find a way to secure them to the 40 for future trips. If a cooler will fit in the same footprint as 2 or 3 cans, then I guess it can do that too.
My goals are:
Modular - remove it when not needed
Mount to my modified OEM tube spare tire carrier frame on the pass side and/or a pre-76 sheetmetal spare tire carrier frame on the pass side (trailer)
Departure Angle Neutral - as compared to a 35" tire on a stock carrier
Inside the body lines - not sticking out the side to get ripped off - got enough of that on the driver's side
Lockable - already fond of my Scepter cans and any beer/food that might be in a cooler
Unresolved:
2 or 3 cans? I have 2 Scepter gas and one Scepter clone water.
The fuel definitely needs to be outside the Cruiser. I have a sheetmetal carrier for a single can that I could use for the water can inside the Cruiser. Or I could use that single carrier as a second modular option to bolt up the same as the "big" carrier.
CB Antenna, Hi-Lift, License Plate, Rear Flood Light Mounts - Some/All of these would need to mount to the carrier frame and not the removable rack.
Constructive ideas and suggestions requested.
I went thru my "cool pics saved from MUD" folder and found a winner:
Anybody have any surplus 3/16" or 1/4" 1.25" angle iron? I already have some bent tubing to cut up and weld together. Thanks
