Hey 100 guys, I don't normally do this but wanted to ask for some input on this one. As some of you know I've developed quite the collection of dashboard accessory mounts starting with the 200 series, then GX460/470, 40, Tundra, 80... and now the 100 series. My first one in this series fits the later model LX470's. So I thought it would be worth the effort to reach out for feedback on this one...

1. what do you think of the solution? worth it to trim a little plastic?
2. what other hole pattern do you think you need up there? It's .120" thick steel so the idea is you can just tap threads for Ram balls, or drill your own hole, etc. But easy enough to add something if there was a go-to track or something everyone likes. I prefer just the screw-on Ram balls as I never need to slide them.
3. Can anyone confirm how many interiors there are for the 100? I'm unclear when/where the interior changes all were. I can likely figure this out, am guessing there are at least 2 versions of the Land Crusier and at least 2 LX470's.
3.5 which version should I focus on next?

I haven't updated my site yet to add these, but will do so... also if there's any interest in getting in on the "first batch" of these let me know we can do a little deal there, shoot me a PM? looking forward to any/all comments, thanks.

Just curious, does it create shade for the screen? Cause I sometimes have a hard time seeing anything on the screen when it's bright outside and I'm wearing sunglasses, and I'm wondering this would actually help with that. The mounts would just be a bonus lol.

I think the LC post refresh dash is the same on the back end. From what I saw in your video, the vent surrounds are different (yours are only half height), but everything mounts the same. My original vent surrounds broke apart and I replaced them with no name Chinese ones so I'm not afraid to cut them up. I know my 2000 LC also had four screws to hold in the head unit, but I don't think they were not positioned the same as the ones in my 2006.

Any idea what the ballpark normal pricing will be?

hey great info, thanks. Do you have a link to the replacement vents you found? that could be helpful here.. and looking at like $80 for one of these moving forward.
That’s rad. I’d trim my vent covers for that.
sweet!

Adding to my future purchase list. I've been completely happy with Tim's mount for the GX470.

I can tell you from experience that improperly mounted devices become flying projectiles when bouncing around on off-road trails and can be worse when there is a sudden stop from hitting something.

This is a safety modification as far as I'm concerned.

That is almost guarantee the glasses themselves.
Assuming they are polarized right? (that is the reason pilots don't use polarized sunglasses)

Beat me to the post! I wanted to brag about it.
I went from a massive suction cup ram setup to this. It rarely if ever fell off, but kinda wiggled, anytime I pulled it off to set up my sunshade it would take like 10min to readjust. Also couldn’t really see buttons and controls very well. I have an aux. CarPlay screen.

It’s downright great. The trimming is minimal and looks good. I spent some time with my ram mount arms and thingies and will post updated pics later. Great job @nakman

Yeah, taking them off helps, but my screen is also slightly, discolored? I'm not sure if that's the right word, but it's not perfectly clear, and sunlight kinda washes out the picture too. Screen should be replaced, but I don't really want to spend money on a 20 year old infotainment system, and I'm not sold on any of the aftermarket options yet.

@CardinalFJ60 you have got to have one of the best driveway views... thanks again for being the test subject here!
For the people who pay attention to the details.

Hey

>> I think its a good solution. Personally, this is just me, but I don't like the idea of mounting stuff up above the dash line. I like how some of the photos show the tablet dropped down lower

>> Maybe having a way to mount off the front side of the plate would help keep the items lower down and eliminate the need for the elbows...but may also add too much weight /vibration depending on how secure it is.

Bumpy road test will be necessary for sure. I've got a dash mounted RAM mount and its perfect on road but a bit too bouncy when hitting the dirt roads

Both of my tablets heat up when running map applications (GAIA abnd OnX) in the summer months. Being able to direct cool air from a vent to the back helps to keep them running.

Great stuff, Mike, thanks. That front face is pretty big so I'm sure you could add a hole to it and mount a forward facing Ram ball, but as you say having stuff further out just adds to their leverage a bit (moment) which is counter to the design intent a bit. Putting the weight on top is a little less stress on the 2 arms that are holding it up. Longer arms would also put things more in front of the Nav... shorter arms keep the weight a little more in check. As you say, the proof is out in the dirt somewhere and we'll continue to put this through the paces here. really hoping to keep the mounting (and subsequent vent trimming) to a minimum.

This setup is working really well on the 80 series version of this, but on that one everything is a little tighter as we didn't have to extend past a huge dashboard to make it happen, and the arms are wider. We're not baja racing here, but we do like to drive through the desert pretty quick, and this mount works really well for that..

will make a similar video of @CardinalFJ60 's setup in a couple weeks... ;)

Tim, let me know if you need an early LX (2000) test subject- I'm just on the other side of Sheridan from you.
