Going through my notes, it looks like I used the smaller Kicker's front and rear. On at least the front, I got small rubber bushings to create a spacer between the the speaker and the sheet metal. I am no audiophile, but it all sounds good enough. I left it to the next owner (my daughter) to decide if she wants a new head unit with a screen and CarPlay.
Thank you! I really appreciate the quick feedback.

I'm not looking for anything audiophile in the rig either. Kickers ound good enough to me as well.

I'll post up here when I get around to doing the install. Everything on this rig takes 2-3 times longer than it should due to PO's shenanigans every step of the way... lol.

Same summary, different reasons. I am not all that accomplished with a wrench and lived in fear of my daughter's friends reactions when they inevitably inspected my work. It was a long expensive project by I am happy with the end result. I think we still have a head gasket in front of us, but one of her friends owns a shop and has offered space, help and tools to get it in and out. No sign of a problem now, but it is a 30 year old rig with 240k miles on it.

lol. I feel you on that. I was forced to become proficient with a wrench when I got into Cruisers. BUT, I still hate wiring of all kinds. Most recently, it was re-wiring and replacing the horns. The PO just chopped off the connectors... Then had to replace everything at/in the steering wheel too. Horns are working, and interior is actually starting to look somewhat nice again.

The HG re-do is in my future too as I don't believe it was ever done. Same here... no problems whatsoever... but I've developed a real paranoia... always keeping an eye on the temp guage.

If the stereo install goes smoothly, and the speakers all fit, I'll post up part numbers, etc.

Happy New Year!

Malleus was a Godsend on all things electrical. Fortunately, my issues were by and large corrosion on a couple of connectors.

Ballenger Motor Sports is a great source for electrical bits. The harness side housings for the O2 Sensors even come with the body mounts. But I am with you, I get cold chills when I am confronting electrical issues of any sort.

Kickers installed in bother rear doors. Turned out very nice.

I ended up notching out the lower portion of the factory speaker hole so that there was plenty of room for the connectors and so that I could mount the speakers “straight”.

Running the 5.25” kickers in the front. Need to make a “surround” that looks passable before mounting them up.

Thank goodness the oem wiring still works well, which means one less thing to muck about with.

For the front speakers, I'm going to be using 1/4' ABS to make the spacers. Then cut a hole in it to receive the speaker so that it is offset toward the rear of the truck. This ought to make more of the speaker... so that it isn't firing into the side of the dash on both sides.

In order to compensate for the gap in the door card covering, I'll be cutting an ABS surround for the speaker. It won't look factory, but it will look tidy enough.

That's for Saturday. I'll post up pics.

Cheers, everyone.

The 5.25” Kickers fit perfectly behind the factory grills. The .25” abs spacer worked perfectly. Still running the old aftermarket Sony head. Going to pull the dash before too long and get the new head and amp in there.
