An FYI for those interested: The blank center console switch on my '99 covers a rear heater switch that to the best of my knowledge wasn't an option, or at least it was a rare option in the USA anyway, on '99's (possibly other years too). This switch is actually part of the circuit board and not a stand-alone type switch. But its clean and useful! I bought the OEM switch cover from Christo, I believe, a couple years ago; might be source-able from Toyota. You simply pry the cover from the switch panel on the center console and snap the new switch plate in...that simple!

Beneath the rear portion of the center console (just remove the rear section of the center console to access) you can get ignition switched 12v power. Although this connector actually is part of the rear heater fan switching it does not provide on/off via the center console rear heater switch; probably something to do with the ECU upstream controlling this aspect. But it is a nice easy source for ignition switched power as needed.

But under the driver's side front seat is the connector you can pull 12v power from that is switchable via the rear heater switch apart of the center dash console. You don't get separate "High or Low" switching but get "Off, On, On" though including the green LED showing the on, on and off positions! You'll want to tap into the solid blue line leading to the shown connector to get switched power via ignition #1 and the rear heater switch in the center console #2. Perfect for switching my Sanden OBA compressor on via the pressure switch.

Special thank you to RustyDan for coming up on the eve of his vacation to help me decipher the EWD ;)

Interesting. On my 98 I have the rear heat that kicks out at the rear of the center console. Do you have rear air conditioning ? Maybe those with rear air don't get the second row (rear) heat.

Yes I have rear A/C in my '99. 1999 was the first year for the rear A/C option.

I was exploring my mom's Hundy, and I pulled the switch cover off the rear heater switch spot and the white plastic thing inside is a perfectly functional button. It even makes the center console fan come on (no higher than low, however. Using the rear seat control panel can't get it higher than low either).

What does this imply?

I just have a blank cover where yout heater HI Lo switch is. Your saying if I pull the cover I have a functioning switch I can use for a 12v fridge that wont drain the battery?

It's a switched power source, so if the key is off, it's off. Having a fridge on this would be the same as having in plugged into the 12v accessory or cigarette lighter. Also, you'll have to buy the button, but the socket is there on the board apparently. This would be better for something like a power inverter, compressor like the OP, or other item that you're going to want to turn on and off while the truck is on.

So Dan, with that blower unplugged in your 3rd pic, I'm guessing your rear heat doesn't work now? Or did you just tap into power there and plug it back in?

For whatever reason I never had rear heat or fan from this button; when the button was cycled you could hear the relay clicking and that was it. The other rear fan button to the right controls the rear A/C fan as only an on/off as the fan speed and temp need to be selected from the panel that sits in the headliner between the 2nd and 3rd row. I just used the wire to the plug that was not being used...

All this left me wondering why the fan is even there under my DS seat...

Was this for an overseas set up where the rear heat controls are not in the headliner? just a thought...

Not sure if it was offered as an option for '99+ model year 100/470s or not. But I think the rear heater was an option for USA 1998 LCs (1998 model year did not have rear A/C as an available option).

Interesting - my situation seems much different. First, the fan under the seat is standard for the rear heat whichever way it is controlled (classic landcruiser). My system is probably like yours in that the REAR button controls power to an overhead console in the back seat for heat and a/c controls. I pulled the front console apart to expose the same button you put in, but there were no contacts or springs, etc behind my cap. There is a printed circuit board for the buttons on either side, but there was nothing else. I put my Parrot control in that space, and ran the wire through the pc board to the Parrot base under the passenger seat. I was hoping to find a useable switch as you did.

In any case there is 12 v power in the console anyway for the lighter socket inside the console.

I would agree that this would be a great option on an inverter set up. I may look into it, as I remove our inverter after every trip. Since we have a 14" drop down wide screen and RCA jacks in the center console, the inverter to power the PS3 up for games or bluerays on the long trips would be good. I would really love it if I had room to stuff the inverter under the seat, but given the need of airflow, I don't know that this is a viable option. Will have to investigate a bit this weekend...

Pull your passenger seat and you will see the amplifier taking up some space, but the other lumps in the carpet are simply styrofoam blocks. There is lots of room under that seat.

Mine has the Nav DVD in there too, but I could still look around. I don't think there is enough room for the inverter that I currently have, but could look at other options.

FWIW, all European 100s have the rear heater under the LHS seat. Also those with rear AC afaik. And that switch in the first post "Rear Heat Lo Hi" has a duplicate at the back of the centre console (for the 2nd row passengers). The two switches control the same relay, and the indicator light changes in both switches simultaneously. So the Ign.switched 12 V in the center console would be what is feeding this duplicate switch, on vehicles with it fitted.

That gives me the idea to use the rear AC switch, which I don't have, for switching e.g. an inverter in the back, where you guys have the rear AC. I guess I will find the cable behind the trim close to the RHS tail light. Sounds good?

hi, can you give me more info on this switch. where do you wire it? I have 2001 LC

The point is that it's already wired. Just put a cap/button on the hidden switch and you have switchable power to the connector under the driver's seat shown in the pic.

so only connect one on the passenger seat, what that picture #2 the back of the center console?
