Hit another new area (to me) this weekend: About 20-miles North of Austin: Iowa Canyon. A bunch of different mining roads, running creeks, great campsites, great terrain (Toiyabe Range). Be a great place to explore (but not hunt unfortunately :frown:).

Also got stuck on a wall down a dead end trail with the trailer on Saturday at Smith Reservoir. I have always feared this...it was a butt pincher for sure. Slowly backed my way back up, around and down a cliff...don't want to have a repeat anytime soon!

One more...that'd be the 1/2 moon. Nothing technical out here (other than having to back the trailer 1/4 mile out of a precarious spot...) but sure was peaceful and beautiful out there!

Very nice. I have been all around the south area of Austin, but never north, so yeah once again I am open for a new to me area. I really like it out there, everything but the town itself.

After the blizzard in the Desatoya's and the flats I ended up in Austin to gas up, maybe eat dinner and grab a motel if the weather didn't start cooperating. I must admit it looked and felt more hospitable last Saturday than when we were there back in late April/early May! There were an abundance of motel rooms available...but I ended up going North to clear looking skies and ultimately cooking and camping as planned. I really want to go back and explore this area in depth. More creeks, springs, seeps than I have seen in a long time!!! And great places to camp!

Excellent. Looking forward to it.

I was just browsing Topozone looking at maps of the area. Looks like there are a ton of interesting canyons and roads on either side of SR305.

Shouldn't take more than a month to explore the area.

One thing about Austin, they are consistent. I've passed through there a couple of times a year for the past twenty years and have always been received the same way.

Eureka is a cool town. We were coming back from Belmont mining district one time and the truck was loaded with mud, so much I couldn't go over fifty MPH without having the front end shake.
The local sheriff set me up with a hose out in front of the station house and let me blast the mud off the front wheels.

Wow...great experience. We noticed last spring when we were in Eureka the town takes much higher commitment and pride in their community compared especially to Austin.
