That leads me to this obvious qustion?

Can either of those options be incorporated into our rigs and do away with the FL?

It would be nice to use a CB or the LED lights set up. That would save lots of time and money. Looks like I am out of luck until Mon morning. It would be nice if you could incorporate any of the two systems.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

I'm sure you could replace the fusable links with a breakers of a similar rating.... I htink its good to keep the fusable link...for one the smoke lets you know you have a problem.

My advice is to buy at least two or so...unless you know for sure what your problem is.

I am not a fan of FL's

Breakers are a much better idea IMHO. More user friendly as well.

The main reason you do not want to replace a FL with a circuit breaker or fuse is very simple. Safety. FL are designed to prevent fires caused by battery short.. .Very High current potential. Rhe deal is wgen there is a high current short the likelyhood of sustained ionization (arching) is much higher than for the typical low curent circuit.

Circuit breakers and fuses are not physicaly larger enough to prevent internal arching. The arch in this situation is capable of carrying high current. Hence the circuit is not fully opend fast enough. ... The result is a potential fire and having your battery cables welded to the frame.

FL's are longer and extinguish the arching much faster reducing the potential of fire. Also the arching that does exist in the length of the FL is longer and hence of higher resistence which reduces the current dramically even before the circuit is opened fully.

This topic seems to come up every couple of months and the physics still has not changed.

I'm no expert but on late model vehicles, I don't seem to find a fuse link on them or am I looking in the wrong place?

look up delcity.net They have a great assortment of electrical stuff.

fusable links on "late model" cars and trucks are generally at the starter, where you would not notice them.

Another thing to consider is that fusable links have been around for a long time.... there must be some value in their use and safety features.

If you have a stock truck and are melting fusable links...you have some serious wiring issues. I burned one up during my expermentation with GM engine & Alt mated to the toyota wiring harness. It was only a matter of a few seconds and I "let the smoke out" after connecting a wire the wrong way in my attempt to interface with the wiring harness at the GM alternator... was glad of the fact that the fusable link was the only thing I had to replace.

Hey guys I ordered my Fusible link on Monday, and I received it today. Took all of 30 sec and I was on the road once more. I should have ordered 2 just so I would have an extra.:steer:
new fusible link.webp

Glad I found this site. I needed to find other Cruiser owners to chat with and share info in a big way. So now that I have that fix, I put up another post on dynamat and sound deadener. That is the next item on the list. With that said, do you guys think I should put the new radio before or after the install?
