Fully Automatic Factory Service Manual (FSM) Downloading (3 Viewers)

I have not pursued reimplementing this system further due to the necessity of further scrutiny of the TOS and Copyright Limitations of the updated system.

Until I can be absolutely certain my reimplementation of this setup does not violate Toyota's established copyright limitations and AUP I will not pursue it further. After seeing the breadth and frequency of use of the FSM downloading system (look at the number of linkbacks, thread views, etc) it is in all of our best interests to ensure we're doing right by Toyota and not abusing the system.


If I am able to seek professional legal counsel or delve further into the provided notices I'll update the thread, otherwise assume it's stagnant. It is possible I'll release the source code to the scraping and package generation system in the future, but it will probably be of limited use and only useful to programmers since it is mostly outdated and defunct.

You can download it but do it but it may take you 2 days. LOTS of small files. The good news is if you have another Toyota you can get the FSM for it too. Did I mention there are LOTS of files?

I think it was $80 for the FSM and another $50 for the wiring diagram.

Using a relatively slow internet connection (384Kbps), I was able to download the entire FSM within a few hours, made simple by the fact that I created the directory structure prior to downloading.

It should not take you more than one day to do it, especially with a faster connection. YMMV.

Upon further consideration I think it may be possible to create a firefox extension that makes this easier. If I create a generic extension that detects and saves a page structure with PDF links and then downloads and organizes them that shouldn't violate the Toyota TOS. That may work, I'll investigate.

As mentioned, it only took a few hours to download an entire FSM. I was able to get three or four other manuals and quite a few other publications, including owner's manuals.

My point was that it should not take two full days to download only one FSM.

I just rang TIS (7/23/10) and they said they're out of stock on the print version but are working with Helm on getting more. If Helm is the printer, or is offering a different book alltogether I'm not sure.

I've paid for the TIS 1-day subscription and spent a few hours downloading files, all the while trying to keep them organized by creating directories and subdirectories...etc. However, I could do this round the clock and don't sense an end in sight.

An amazing set of data.... but for the amount of time it'll take to manually pull down all the individual pdf's with some semblance of order... I'll never get that time back in my life that could've been spent with my kids or one of 8 projects that I'm already in the hole for.

I agree... I can't believe there is not an easy way to download this.

I would like to obtain it legally, and I don't care what it costs, but I'm not going to sit at a computer for hours trying to piece everything together.
