Beowulf,

No problem - actually my question was poorly worded -
when cajuns get exited they talk fast (in this case they type too fast)...
Take it Easy and thanks for the tip on the LX450 files

Put the Shrek doll on eBay and use the proceeds to buy a WinXP box? ;)

Doesn't the Mac have some type of Windows emulation? Seems I've read this somewhere.

the new intel mac does as purchaseable add on software, but my g4 just predates intel so available emulators are pretty iffy. the new os-x will have the boot camp dos emulator software built in so if I wait until that comes out then upgrade the box I can do it...

Semlin,
You'll be glad to know that I'm typing this from a Mac which I just used to download a package. There are only a few quick modifications that you need to make....

First off, you need to delete wget.exe from the zip package and replace it with this version for Macs:
http://www.statusq.org/images/wget.zip

Then, you need to rename begin_download.bat to begin_download.sh and open it in text edit. Then, goto edit->find and replace all instances of "wget" with "./wget" and replace all instances of "cookies.txt" with "./cookies.txt"

Get the cookies using the firefox method, put it into cookies.txt (use textedit) SAVE IT and close stuff up. Open up a terminal, cd to your downloader directory, and type "./begin_download" and hit enter The magic should then happen ;)

I'm not a mac user and don't know their ins-and-outs but I think those directions make sense. It is still unix-like at its core ;)

woohoo, i'll try it tonight! thanks nate

p.s. where do i mail shrek? :D

Hey NaterGator, thanks for doing all of this for us. I was just thinking about how to organize all of the packages so they could fit in one post, and I think it could work if you put all the manuals for one car/year (say the 1994 Land Cruiser) in one package. So it would look like this:

1994
Land Cruiser (ATM Unit Repair, New Car Features, Repair Manual, Technical Training, Wiring Diagrams)
Camry (New Car Features, Repair Manual, Technical Training, Wiring Diagrams)
Previa (ATM Unit Repair, New Car Features, Repair Manual, Wiring Diagrams)

You would just download the package containing all of the manual packages and just use which packages you want. I think this would work because I believe most people want to download all of the manuals for their car anyways. You could be killing two birds with one stone!

PS: could you please get the 1991 Toyota Previa package for me NaterGator? :D

New member zip file requests

Nate - way cool project. Can you do one for the 03 Rav4 (whatever is available) and 06 Prius?

Thanks,

1997 Landcruiser problems

I know it goes without saying at this point, but WOW! Great job and I know I'm not worthy of anything this great.

I made notes for the really new newbies out there and I'll post them up when I'm done (just to simplify the process).

Here is my only question (at this point). I got the zip files for the packages I needed (96 and 97 landcruiser). I unzipped them, followed the rest of your instructions and was able to get all the files for the 96 landcruiser flawlessly. I then had to leave for a meeting and when I returned just now (5 hours later), I started the download for the 97 landcruiser.

Firefox was still open and I was still logged into the Toyota site (even did a TSB check to be sure). I already had the cookie copied to my clipboard so I opened the downloader file for the 97 TLC, opened the cookie.txt file, highlighted the relevent portion as I had done several times earlier today, hit ctrl+V and then ctrl+S and closed the cookie window. I then started the begin_download.bat.

The new window opened and everything appeared to go just fine (including the really extensive download for the repair manual). But when it was done and the window closed, I went up a level in the directory to where the downloader file is and there were no other files. Earlier, when I did this for all the 96 TLC files, that is where all the files where located. None of the 97 TLC packages worked right.

Sooooo, I thought perhaps something changed with the cookie, but I re-copied the cookie and still no luck. I logged off and back on the Toyota site, and then copied the cookie again, still no luck.

Any thoughts before my subscription expires at noon central time tomorrow?

Regardless, great job and thanks again!

ON EDIT: Problem fixed. I think I did get logged out of the TIS site (I did a TSB check and it gave me results but I never opened any of the results and I suspect I couldn't if I had tried). When I logged out and back in, it gave me a different cookie and I must have goofed somewhere trying to copy it and paste it in the downloader cookie (I had to first remove/paste over the old cookie and I suspect that is where the error occurred).

I went back and tried it all over again from the beginning (same zip files - so I didn't download those again), and it worked (is working right now). I figured user error was the most likely cause of my problem, and I was right!

To anyone else who is having similiar problems, it is best to do all the downloading in one sitting or at least don't let your connection sit as the toyota site will kick you out (though it doesn't appear that way). Open and new connection in firefox and copy the new cookie and you're set to go!

I guess I just figured the cookie wouldn't change.

Really great program (and everything eventually worked for me once I figured out my own user error).

Just curious though, I tried to view some of the manuals and TSBs on the toyota site using my new 24hr registration and couldn't. I can search and see a list of the search results, but nothing happens when I click the links (actually, if my eyes aren't fooling me, it appears a new window opens for a millisecond and then closes).

Do I need an add-on/plug-in for my browser? I'm I missing something else?

Am I just an idiot? :grinpimp:

That would be aggressive popup blocking from Firefox; usually you just need to add toyota.com to the popup blocker acceptable sites list.

That was my guess too, but I added every derivation of toyota.com I could think of and no luck. I also tried (the dreaded) MS IE and no luck (just a slighter longer delay before closing the new window).

I'll start looking at firewall issues?
