Semlin, what you were posting in chat looks favorable. I see no reason why somebody couldn't get their hands on a binary of wget for Macs and rename "begin_download.bat" to "begin_download.sh" and chmod it +x to allow it to execute.

I do actually know somebody with a MacBook Pro, I might have a whirl at this later in the week once exams (and they are kicking my ass) are over.

I'm from Canada & I'm trying to download the FSM but unable to subscribed TIS, everytime I enter my address it rejects it . You will non -us resident able to download this free FSM?

I'm trying to use your automated method for getting the service manuals....and having a problem.

I get an error for each file:
ERROR: Certificate verification error for techinfo.toyota.com: unable to get local issuer certificate
To connect to techinfo.toyota.com insecurely, use --no-check-certificate'.
Unable to establish SSL connection.

The automated downloader then goes on to the next file.

I suspect I'm messing something up, but I'm not sure what. Any thoughts?
Thanks much!
JM

There are several posts that mention a USA address is required. See post #236 for a suggestion on how to get around this.

Jay, that sounds like a problem with your SSL certificates on your computer. Can you give me a bit more info on your setup and I'll see if I can help?

Thanks and good luck!

Nate
Thanks! I'm running windows xp media center edition, and firefox 1.5.0.11. Under firefox tools, options, advanced, security tab I have checked SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0 and TSL 1.0. Also checked is the box for select a certificate automatically.

If it would help, I can email you the contents of cookie.txt. Not sure what other info to give you. Thanks again for hte help.

I'd like to know how you create the packages in the first place. Care to share?
Unfortunately for the sake of toyota and myself, I'm not interested in detailing the process too specifically. I feel like toyota provides a useful servince in allowing access to electronic versions of the service manuals, and out of respect for that service I do not want to detail too specifically how I accomplish what I do.

Suffice it to say when I have a requested vehicle I lookup the "TIS Code" for that vehicle and then plug it into a program which makes recursive queries to the TIS server and gathers (publicly available) data (lists), recognizes useful chunks of the data, applies a few transformations on the results so that the links are directly to the pdfs, and then automatically creates the necessary file structure, zips the package, and then places it into a directory. The longest part is querying the TIS server for the data, since each package probably runs upwards of 150 queries. That is why I chose to keep the script private, so that the same vehicle would not be run over and over again (to keep unnecessary traffic on the TIS system down)

I hope that makes sense :D

Hello and Thanks for developing this,

I am having a problem with the 1996 Toyota Landcruiser zip files extracting using WinZip.

I get the following message after trying to extrract:

"Cannot open file: It does not appear to be avalid archive"

anyone have any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks

Can someone email me the above zip files?

You should solve your problem instead of asking others to violate copyright laws. Dozens, maybe hundreds have got this simple process to work. Nate has done the complex part and all you need to do is follow the instructions exactly.

Beowulf,

I think you mis-understood my request. I dont want anyone to send me the FSM pdfs. I want someone to send me the zip files Nate has links to earlier in the discussion so that I can download using hsi technique from TIS. For some reason I can not get them to extract once I download them. Again, all I want are the zip files Nate has posted links earlier in this thread that have the cookie file etc. Can anyone email me the above for the 1996 Landcruiser - I only signed up for a day with TIS..

Thanks,

Steve

Someone sent me Nates zip files and it was a no brainer...
Something was going on with the files I was downloading
they woudl not extract properly?

anyway it was successful after I got the extraction to work...

Thanks Nate.

Beowulf,
I think you mis-understood my request.

Steve,
You are correct. I misunderstood your request and I owe you an apology. I am sorry and should have asked before assuming you were looking for the PDFs.

I am glad you were able to do the download from TIS before your subscription expired.

While you are at it, you should grab the 1996 LX450 NCF. It has a lot more information about the vehicle than any other year NCF that I have seen.
