My 82 Hilux (22R) has what looks like a aftermarket fuel tank, a ghetto electric fuel pump, and disconnected fuel lines. Also has the OEM mechanical fuel pump (bypassed). The fuel leak at the tank when it gets full is an added bonus.

What's involved with dropping the tank on these trucks? I want to find the leak and also replace all the rubber lines. Also get rid of the electric pump. Is draining the coolant absolutely necessary to remove the mechanical pump?

Consider jack up one side or removing the bed.
No need to drain coolant to remove mech pump

OK thanks I'll try that. The tank is empty (I think) so should be easy(er)

Two people should be able to lift the bed off and move it back and onto sawhorses. That will make everything much easier than trying to tackle it from underneath.

Thanks good idea.
