Trying to determine if I have a bad fuel pump. I removed the inlet hose to the pump. Should gas gravity drain from tank or does it need suction?

Yes to gravity drain?

I'm going say depending on the level in the tank. A few years back my 70 FJ40 died all of a sudden. Lucky for me it happen while parking it in the garage. Day before I was 70 miles from driving around in the forest alone. Initially thought I had run out of gas. Pulled the passenger side and remove the fuel level sending unit. Confirmed there was gas in the tannk. This was just as we were leaving our summer home. I investigated in the spring and found the hose between the fuel filter and fuel pump had snapped. Once I repaired the hose the cruiser started right up and ran with the fuel in the tank. After I Confirmed the pump was not feeding gas on the outlet I figured a line was plugged. Though for sure fuel would have siphoned out with a break between the pump and tank it did not.

Thank you
