This is a 1970 Toyota FJ40 with a newly rebuilt 2F motor (from a 1975 FJ40) and 3-spd transmission. The entire motor was gone through, replaced all bearings, rings, honed, valve job, complete OEM gasket kit, new clutch, throwout bearing, pressure plate, all new fluids, rebuilt carburetor, new battery... Everything was purchased new from Toyota. Also comes with a brand new stereo and speakers. The interior and underneath have all been ryno-lined. There is no roof or doors. Well, I do have bikini doors available.
Tires are all in great shape. Has some new Autometer gauges.
Runs great and looks great. No known rust. Garage kept. I just don't seem to find the time to drive it. When I do it gets a lot of attention.
Bear in mind this is a 39 year old vehicle so it is obviously not perfect. Just a fun FJ40.

I only have these pictures right now but can take plenty more if necessary.

definitely a nice truck... and in the range of $ i am looking for... willing to make a trip out too.

can you list its current issues / what needs to be fixed to make her 100% (assuming, like every truck out there, it has at least a couple of issues).

also, are the bikini doors you mentioned included?

also if you know, how hard would it be to find a top?

lastly, is it just my eyes or are the seats oddly placed? like is the pass side seat higher up and tilted?

thanks.

OK, bear with me here so I can go through everything. Headlights, tails, turn signals all work. Gas gauge works, oil pressure gauge works and temp gauge works. New battery cut off switch and igntion switch. New battery. Seats are bolted down but could do with being attached more safely. Brakes work fine. Sometimes going into 3rd gear if you try and jam it in it will grind. I don't ever have a problem with it as I shift normally. There has been a ticking/knocking sound coming from the motor so I have an appointment next Wednesday to get this problem taken care of. It is covered under warranty. Tires are all in good shape. I have slowly been taking care of the wiring and trying to fix it up. Had planned on replacing the fuse box but haven't found the time as of yet. Speedometer isn't hooked up. I think this covers everything.

Yes sir.

I have located a top and doors for $400 locally.

See my list above. The problem is that the bracket sits higher to go over the gas tank on the passenger side. These were just cheap seats I used so I could drive it until I could locate better ones.

thanks.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Regards,
Jonny

Thanks for the reply.

If you can post up when you have a diagnosis on the ticking/knocking, that would be great.

I'm still looking at whether i can pull the trigger or not!

One more Q: is a 4spd swap hard? Like do I need an adapter to do that?

Sorry, I'm a total n00b when it comes to 40's.... i've had and wheeled an 01 4runner and a 91 sas'd pickup in the past, this is my first trip to landcruiser-ville.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have an appointment on Wednesday to bring it in and get it checked. Upon hearing the result, I will let you know.

As for your question, I am not sure. However, being that I have the 2F motor and the 2F came stock with a 4-spd, I am GUESSING you would NOT need an adaptor. Please not the "guessing" part ;)

I had planned on getting the 4-spd myself, but for some unknown reason I ordered all the parts for a 3-spd without thinking about it - and by that stage it was too late

Regards,
Jonny

looks like i may be in the same boat!
nice rig. good luck

It's going to get a roof and doors, followed by a paint job. Possibly a 4-spd to go with the 2F. After that I guess we will see how she looks :)

Good luck with your sale, and thank you for the compliments. Regards,
Jonny

The H42 four speed is a bolt-in swap, no adapters needed. Use an OEM four speed type bellhousing and the H42 trans. You might have to change the clutch plate too, check the FAQ. If you want to keep the "three speed" transfer case, the input gear and other minor parts are available in kit form for about $150 (this really isn't an "adapter," just a few parts).

Alternatively, swap in an H42 with a matching transfer case and driveshafts (bigger u-joints than the three speed uses), but then you'll have to change the flanges at the pinions. You get a little lower gearing with the three speed case, but the four speed case is a little quieter and is stronger.

Nice rig, BTW!
