How difficult is it to just swap out the seat back of a driver's seat, keeping everything else the same? And what about the motor that drives the seat forward and backwards on the tracks?
Here's my situation: trashed front seats for my '98 LC (classic) with flattened padding that I didn't want to pay for reuphostery. My project time has been very limited recently so I haven't wanted to sink too much time just into the seats. But, I found a pair of front seats in a junkyard from a '99 LX470. Passengers side is in good condition and swapped in with no problem. Driver's seat - bottom cushion leather is torn but the seat back and armrest material are pretty good, and padding is better all around.
When I put on the new seat cover and mounted the "new" seat, I found the motor is not driving both sides of the track forward and backward. Only the left side track moves along, and the right side doesn't move, so it twists and binds up on itself. First looked to see about just the replacing the motor, but that's looking like quite a bit of disassembly.
If I could just swap the "new" seat back onto the "old" seat, I would be ok with that, although the other one would be nicer. I don't know if it's worth trying to swap the motor. But I'm wrapping up for this evening and not going to try tearing into that right now either way. Wanted to ask if anyone has tried this before for the next bit of free time I have to work on it!
