I need to get my front end service done, problem is im not physically able to do it. (back and hip probs) just trying to budget for it and am wondering if anyone had a shop do theirs and what it cost. I understand cost will vary depending on what they find, just trying to get a ballpark
You in Colorado I'll do it
If not 800 to 1200 depending on where your at
Plus seals
Maybe birfs
Bearings
Spindles
Rotors
Just depends what ya see when torn down
It really depends on what you need. Assuming a basic rebuild. All bearings, seals and gaskets. Everything for a rebuild: $350ish if using OEM parts ( buy trough @beno ) If you're brakes need doing this would also be the time to do them. Pads and rotors for the front: $200
Shop labor : $100 per hour x 4.5-5 hours
Al in probably about $1000
I hear of too many people overpaying for front axle service. A competent shop with a lift can have this job done in 5 hours. It's not complicated at all just messy. You probably don't need new birfield joints, you'll hear clicking (some guys swap the joints to the other side and have good results) but if you do, plan on parts being significantly more.
Toyota dealership might be higher than an independent shop but would come with the best warranty; one year if it leaks and maybe less hassles if they mess something up. Last time I checked (six years ago) with no hard parts,, ~$1200. On the other hand if you can find an independent shop that specializes in Land Cruisers that might be the better route, but I would not take it to any shop no matter how good the price if they haven't done a few of these previously.
