Has anyone trimmed off the plastic shield that blocks the front/top part of the front camera? I'm relocating the camera with an ARB relocation kit .

I'm thinking that would give a better view, especially in the new location.

At least on my ‘20 that shield is in the software.

I put mine centered above the winch. Plus the guy in Newport Beach has a tread to realign the camera vision and lines.

"the guy in Newport Beach has a tread to realign the camera vision and lines"

That certainly answers the question.

There is some dance with the NAV buttons then you get into a service menu where you can re-align the camera. I only did it once.

I got that camera re-location part from ARB and moved my camera here and then re-aligned it using the back door menu.

I put mine here.

The front camera has a shield over the top part of the camera.

I would move it forward and then drill some new holes in the bumper and mount it there so the bumper is not so visible and blocking the camera's vision. BUT is would leave that shield in place, it is for weather and debree rain snow dust.

The shield is for Protection, so if you remove it you'll need some kind of protection.

You could also mount it in the bumper Like I did and remove the shield, as then the bumper protects it.. and put that lic plate off to the side.

My question was about removing/modifying the shield to allow for a full picture.

Yes.. If you remove the shield and you stick it in the bumper then it's still shielded and the vision is not blocked.

If you remove the shield and it's on top of the bumper then it's not protected. Rain will blur it and snow will bury it.

Perhaps try a temp mount like @atwals but cant the securing surface to tilt the camera back a bit to see if in fact viewable area changes before camera mods? I wonder if the blacked out area is in the software?

Perhaps, but there is clearly a shield covering the top and part of the front of the camera. I'll take a picture of the camera if it doesn;t snow again tonight.

I'm aware of the piece you're describing but the blue vehicle profile and accompanying black area is i the software for the camera I believe. Are you wanting to see further ahead or down and closer?

Yes I am trying to improve the view.

I will be very interested in your results as I too find the blue vehicle annoying and a waste of viewing field of view.

I swapped out my front camera for a non oem one, and I still see the black area and blue car -- so I think it's a software thing.

if you find a way to turn that off, please let me know!

Is the resolution any better?

Just noticed if only front view is selected the annoying shaded area is significantly reduced as opposed to a combined front and side view. Don't know if this helps.
