Happy Easter,

I tackled the front brakes on my ‘87 after gathering all tools and parts that were required for a smooth operation. Found out I was given the wrong wheels studs but was able to track down the Dorman replacements for the front. Like many others, I found that they are slightly larger than factory so I carefully drilled out original hub to accept new studs. As I put it all back together one stud broke free and just spins so I guess there was not enough metal to bite on the collar. The other five torqued down fine but in the back of my monkey brain, this will give me an existential crisis until I’ve found a solution.
I have decided to go all in and just replace the axle hub assembly on both sides and start from scratch with oem Toyota studs for piece of mind. Does anyone have any suggestions on sourcing new hubs? I have seen the “trail gear” replacements, but there is never a mention about what studs they take oem or new larger replacement. I just want to do this right the second time and not worry about it. Help me out
Also, with new hubs do the bearing and seals just press in?

Part number for OEM hubs, they won't be cheap 4350260020. From the diagram races may be included.

Another option is to find a pair of good used hubs.

You're going to have trouble finding OE hubs. I believe they're discontinued.

Aftermarket are Trail Gear and Some Japanese made (in Aus), and China-made from flea-bay

Actually considering just welding the studs at the rear, considering it would get me a bomb proof setup and the only downside is that when a stud or bearing or something breaks, I’ll have to replace the whole unit which I’m considering anyway. Thoughts? Couple welds at the back of the studs would be stronger than any knurls they have. I understand they would be one time use at that point but I’m not rock crawling

@TDButler

No idea if welding messes with the balance of those hubs. I personally don't like the Dorman studs for various reasons, including I've seen them break.

You might source some used hubs and the various bits from Mark's Off Road:

I have two fj62 hubs I just removed for big brake upgrade. They still have races in them and OEM studs. Still filled with grease. Send me a PM with an offer and I’ll sell to you. I saw no issues with them or bearings when I pulled. I may even have a knuckle rebuild kit that I accidentally bought two (they are for both sides so only needed one). I assume fj62 hubs are the same.
