Fresh air was removed/deleted on my Columbian import 1974 FJ40. Is it possible to find the inside hardware to make functional again?

To All more knowing that me. That does not take much in the world of FJ40 as my journey is just starting.... Anyway, I purchased a Colombian import, as most find out after the fact. You should not do this unless it is a smoking good deal and you can inspect it. Lesson learned on my side.... BUT one of the many things I have learned is that the outfit that did the work on my FJ capped off my fresh air intake. It still has a vent to the outside on the cowl and functional drains. All interior doors, levers, knobs, and pulls have been removed. Is there any way to acquire this hardware, reinstall it, and make it all functional again?

I have a few places around me that has a firewall only of a FJ40 that could have what I need, I just wanted to know if I could get the parts by themselves with out have to deal with a complete firewall strip it of the parts I need and then dispose of the rest of the firewall I don't need.

Thanks,

No clue if you can modify FJ-40 parts or not. Me I would make a parallel ruler scissor mechanism to raise/lower the cowl vent inside door/ cover(#73) powered by a choke cable. Pull the choke cable knob out, the mechanism raises the cover to provide air flow - push in and a spring assists in lowering the cover cutting off the air flow. Didn't later later 40's loose use of the cowl vent - even tho the opening was still there?

Put kick vent extenders on the doors to make them more effective air scoops. If you have a heater - close the coolant valve and use the heater fan motor with the pull in outside air open

At some point Toyota disabled and sealed the cowl vent. My 72 40 it worked, my 75 is sealed The cowl vent pocket has drain hoses going thru the tranny hump inside. Yours may have been factory sealed too. You can look or put a wanted ad in the classified section. I think someone was trying to sell an assembly recently.

My’75 is also sealed…for me, fresh air is the kick vent or an open window….

pssst ….( never call it an FJ ) 😉

I doubt your 40 has been modified. My 1974 is the same. What year is yours?
1974, but pretty well modified from Columbia. Like they cut holes in the dash for circular vents, yet put in a classic/traditional underdash unit with no ductwork to the vents... Making little to no sense..... :-( I have a vintage air unit in now that I am trying to route hoses to, which is a joy in itself.

It is not a big deal, just up here in Anchorage, AK... we are mild to cold, more than hot. If I could pull in more outside air, I would be happy on most of the warmer days, but who knows. I may be running that A/C all the time in our "summer" LOL. It is so hot... it is 75 degrees today... LOL
