Well I think I figured out the problem with all the people that whine about their under powered 2F rigs. Their not running a tall enough tire or a heavy enough rim.

I kept my older daughter home with me today and decided to run up the hill. Not to wheel but just to see how the rig did going up the 4 Lane (roughly 6 miles of continuous grade to our local trails). I was blown away. With my 39.5s and 3.73 gears, I had it in 2nd gear (SM465 kind of like the 3rd position) the whole way and I was doing anywhere from 55-62.

Not that I was slowing down but I was just playing with it to see what I could do. I could accelerate uphill no problem. I averaged 58mph on GPS (it was comfortable) It pulled up to 62 no problem and I backed off as I don't need a ticket. :D I let it come down to 55 in a couple of the corners and it pleasantly came back up to 58 no problem.

The whole way the motor was sitting happily @ 3000-3250.

That's what 2 functional carb barrels will do.

Quick update, I'll add to it later tonight.

Finally took it wheeling today. TH etrip was supposed to be an overnighter and we were supposed to be in the midst of a good amount of snow. I took Hazel (my 4 yo. wheelin buddy ) and we were going to "camp" in the back. Anyway, from the time I pulled off my tow rig (I didn't drive but I'll give the low down on that later) to the time I pulled back on, it rained the whole time. So basically we raced in, hung out for a couple of hours, and ran back out.

I was driving so no action shots.

The kiddo needed a potty break before we got on the trail so I snapped a quick pic.

Hazel was cold (and being goofy) so she climbed in the back with all our gear when we were @ the lake.

Last one. I like how the stance ended up.

So for my updates.

Since I got the rig running, there has always been a hint of a gas smell @ the front of the truck. I would crawll all over it and I could not find a leak or even moisture anywhere. Well after awhile, the leak got bad enough that I found it pretty easily. The pump was a factory pump and my guess is with it's latest stint of sitting with no fluid in it, the diaphram dried out.

We recently found a 60 in a local wrecking yard so I figured I'd take a shot @ the pump for $10. When I got it home I saw it was not a factory pump and in fact looked to be in awesome shape. Got them swapped and no more gas smell.

My PS pump has had a leak out the snout seal since I got it running as well. I figured while I was @ the yard I'd grab the PS pump. That pump had been removed before as the 3rd bolt on the back was MIA so it came off super easy giving me a false sense of the time it would take to swap them.

After a few hours of dealing with the pumps, (I didn't have a FSM and for some reason took my sweet time looking on the net) I bled the system and took it for a spin.....................The replacement pump was fried.

I was a bit wound up so I decided it best to call it a day.

I had access to a sag pump so I figured I'd see how difficult it would be to fab some brackets and throw it in. Pulled the junk pump back out and wormed the sag pump in there. With the smog pump and this being the day before my trip, I said screw it. Threw on the leaky pump, bled it, and wheeled it.

I hoped to have it good so I could drive to SNT but that's not going to happen. I've been wanting to go for the last 3 or 4 yrs so I'm going to trailer and just monitor the pump. It'll hold for a couple of days out there and then I'll get to work on the sag pump again. The wife and kids are looking forward to it so bottom line, I'm going to SNT and the cruiser's coming too. :bounce:

Long update and not much to show for it. :meh:

Great build!
It's awesome to see your kids involved with the cruiser. My kids are well on their way to being cruiser junkies also:D

My feeling has always been if the kids are going to like it, the best time to start is early so they don't have the chance to "think" they don't like it.

My 4 yo has been wheeling with me since she was 2 and she's the one who keeps on me about getting projects done. Gives ya some extra drive when it's coming from the kiddos.

I agree on the buffer..... it will save your arms and shoulders. That is unless the wifey is helping out on this project. She may enjoy the rubbing?

With your ram assist would a stock pump last anyways?

I'm guessing with a good stock pump it would live for a bit. I have an oversized cooler so it adds a decent amount of volume to my system but I haven't heard good things for the long haul on a factory pump. Sags are cheap and available anywhere.

Hazel asked me on the way down the hill Saturday if we could still camp that night. Needless to say we both crashed out. So she asked again if we could have a camp out in the house. She's in there now, all ready for bed.

All cozied up watching a movie.

We're going to "camp" tonight. Not sure if she'll make it in the tent with me on the beach this weekend or if she'll end up in the Cruiser with her mom and sister.

And for something thread related. The 60 we found in the junk yard also had a set of shoulder harnesses swapped into the back. I grabbed those for my back seat for the kids and the wife got all excited at my find. Needless to say, that doesn't happen too often.

nice build up...just spent the last 45 minutes reading through the whole thing. i love 60's and love them even more when they're built for the trail. nice work getting the kiddo's involved. we don't have any yet, but both the wife and i are excited to expose them to wheeling. we love it and i hope they will too. anyway, nice work.
