Maybe trade the heep in. Most of us would never trade something in and submit ourselves to the brutal unethical practices of a stealer. But if I was told I could get out of a heep and into a sweet cruiser I would be more receptive. :D

I wish i could. My jeep is in the for sale section on here now and you can see its anything but stock. I would lose mucho dinero trading it in.

Just to politely offer another opinion...

While you may very well be able to buy an 80 with 150k on it and drive it for 50k miles with no problems, if you buy an 80 with only 50k on it you may very well get 150k miles with no problems. Another 100k miles is a whole lot of driving. In addition to that I'd think there would be much advantage gained by being able to control the preventive maintenance activities during the additional 100k miles of ownership.

.02

This is my thinking.

I like the lower mile one. It just feels better? But thats just me. and on top of that for the extra what 3-4k that you would spend on this one that has less miles compared to one with 150k for 13k and that may or may not have a bad history. I dunno, to me low miles is a good thing. But hey no one tells the truth anymore. The truck my be clocked for all we know. i would have to get a good look at her to tell.

The carfax mileage year to year is fairly consistent. It doesn't seem to have been turned back.

If the price diff is only 2-3k it might change my mind, around here I think you could pick up a 150k LC for 10-12k, so maybe it's just geographic difference, that 57k one at $18k might be a good deal in your area. My LX had 112k and I just bought it for $12k, it is in great condition, interior leather is even quite nice. To get up to snuff I've had to put on new brake pads, an antenna, and $60 to reweld the midas cat convertors the PO had put on, other than that, it is like new. But like I said, prices differ geographically and I would concur that paying a little more for a lot less miles could definitely be a good thing. :)

Easier to sell a Cruiser with 150K (and for more $$$$) than with 250K. Might even get part of that 3-4K back. I just bought an inexpensive 93 with 165K. High mileage worked in my favor....so far. Do have some work to do though that would not have been needed in a truck with 50K. We are talking well over a $10,000 difference in price though. I can still dump another 4k in her and stay ahead. In the end? we all get it in the end ;) (with automobiles that is) Doubt that I will ever buy another vehicle that cost more than $5,000. I am turning into a cheap, yahoo that can't justify the incredibly high cost of a new automobile. (insert dueling banjo's here) Once I pay off or sell my 03 Suburban is old clunkers from here on out.

Personally I would wait to get one with lockers. Given the recent surge in gas prices, I think you will see more LCs and LXs for sale. I just purchased my LX450 with 57K and factory lockers for $16,250. As someone else said, you will have better luck finding black with tan interior in a LX450.

True- once gas starts hitting $5 a gallon :crybaby: these rigs are going to be extremely cheap. I would wait a little while and take adavantage of gas hikes to bring the price of the rig down.

That is why I am forced to keep the Suburban. :crybaby: I could take a $4000 hit and let her go real cheap.............. :crybaby: :crybaby:

I don't care about lockers. I would put ARB's in either way.

While there's nothing wrong with the ARB lockers, this is just plain dumb.

You're right, he's trying to save you $2000.

OK, I'll bite.

Why would you pay $18,000 for a low mileage 80 series Land Cruiser with the highly sought after factory locking F&R differentials then replace the Toyota electric lockers with ARB air lockers; spending an additional $2,000 or so? Even if you're going to regear you can still use the factory lockers. If you want an air compressor there are much better solutions.

You obviously know something the rest of us are missing so I'm ready to be enlightened.... from a J@@p guy no less.

ooooooh i see what i did. I didn't read what i wrote. I was unclear. I wouldn't replace the stock lockers if the rig i happened to find had them. I am more concerned with finding a low mileage one that is the right color then finding one with lockers. If i happen to find one with lockers that fits my criteria then groovy. otherwise i am not concerned.

I know the stock lockers are good. I have seen what they can hold up to on several occasions on both 80's and tacos. It would be nice to save some cash but i understand that the chances of finding one with lockers and low miles that happens to be the right color and affordable are extremely slim and i don't have that kind of patience. :D

They're out there. So you can use patience, or money to find one - pick which fits your lifestyle. For instance, a few months ago I found 97 in Moonstone with lockers and 22,000 miles. They wanted $27k for it. In that case you'd obviously use money to get it. Don't settle for an open diffed one - the diffs are also weaker than the locked models.

I am of the thought that $$$$ decides (im a cheap bastard). I have a white 80 (my least favorite color) and lucked out that the rig had lockers. Didn't even know it till I went to pick it up. 165K 94 in good shape for a song and a dance. Of coarse after I do all the PM the song and dance will have turned a full blown broadway show.

Rising fuel prices should make the fuel hungry rigs very cheap. Hopefully you can get a :princess: DD before it's traded in to the car st(d)ealers.
