Thanks to toyota i have my heart set on a fjz80. The last one i looked at was a little roungh but a good price. Decided id look around for options...came across another.

Its a 94 with 165k, heres the kicker: one owner, doctor. Tons of receipts and service records all performed by dealership. Front and rear diffs serviced at 150k for example, anything broker and the guy would take it right in. Hell, theres even a receipt for one huindred dollars for a seat reclining handle.
The entire truck is very very clean and everything works in the truck, even the power ant.

It does not have lockers but has a cdl button on dash. I really doubt this guy added it but seems that someone did, right? Id like a little clarification on the diffs, been reading but still got ?'s

If there is no diff lock switch, the front & rear diff's have no locking mech at all....lsd either?

Asking price is $7k, what yall think?

sounds like a good find.

If it's that clean and has records it's worth it. :)

Carfax just in.... registered only once in 1994, awesome!

I've got a CDL button on my dash. No lockers, it only controls the center diff.

As long as you don't care about front/rear locking differentials, $7K is a good price for an LC that has been well-cared-for.

Pics!

I'd say jump on it unless you really need the lockers. I think it's a good value.

I've got a very similar vehicle, but with only 120K miles. After quite a bit of research, I figured it was worth about $8K.... so I kept it.

Cant really justify waiting for a locked one to pop up, if one does I really doubt its going to be this clean.

Ill put up some pics when i get it, it looks like a 3 year old car:bounce2:

Others already answered but yes, with no diff lock switch you don't have locking diffs (front or rear). The CDL locks the CENTER diff only so the power going to the front and rear axles is even.

I look at this way: without the CDL locked you have what a Subaru etc. have for an AWD type system...With the CDL locked you would have what an old school 4x4 would have when put in 4-wheel drive with the hubs locked.

Or, on some newer vehicles that have Full and Part Time 4WD, I correlate the Full Time 4WD to the LC without the CDL locked and the Part Time 4WD to the LC with the CDL locked.

IMO if the rig is as well maintained as it appears to be then it is a good find. If you find down the road that locked axles are a necessity you can do so with aftermarket options from cheap (automatic locker in the rear) to primo (selectable ARB lockers front and rear).

As for LSD in the axles...Don't know for sure but I assume the axles are LSD regardless whether they came from the factory with the locking option or not

There is a small chance it does not have ABS, 4 wheel discs, or full floater rear axle if the center diff lock switch was not added by the previous owner. The CDL switch is not standard on FZJ80s (93+) except for a very few which didn't have the previously mentioned features (and maybe some others). They were more like FJ80s with just the 1FZFE added.
No NA 80 series came with limited slip front or rear diffs.

thanks for the clarification, got it.

Im really bummed it doesnt have abs, figured the doc would have opted for the option. Ive thought about retro fitting abs but I think im looking at a grip of cash right?

Lots o' cash to add ABS. I wasn't saying it for sure doesn't have ABS, 4 wheel discs, etc., just something to check, if the previous owner didn't add the switch himself. If it has 4 wheel disc brakes (you can see this through the opening of the wheels), it has ABS.

Make sure you check the breaks and tires. If you have to replace rotors, breaks and redo the emergency breaks system that will cost you plenty. If the tires don't have much tread on them that will cost you too. Have someone check out the breaks and front axles out all of which can be used as a bargaining tool.

Yeah no abs, rear drums :(

tires are almost brand new, michi's. Front suspension area seems very sound, no leaks or creaks and very "tight." Saw receipt for 150k service to difff...front and rear done recently.

Pics up soon!
