Hello folks,

Thought I should introduce myself and vehicle (HDJ 100) to the group, since I had been encouraged to do so by a fellow admin/member when I joined.

Welcome to 'mud!

I have an '84 Pickup with a 5-speed. After driving it yesterday, I jumped in my 100 and my left foot automatically tried to push the brake pedal to the floor... I guess I need to upgrade to an HDJ100. You've got a very cool truck - what's the backstory?

Welcome, looks like a clean ride. Love the black wheels!

Thanks! Ha! I know the feeling. It’s the same feeling when I drive my wife’s vehicle, forgetting it’s an A/T. The backstory started with a friend and I talking while on a run. I mentioned to him that my wife and I were expecting a child (together with already having a large dog). As a result, I liked the idea of having the VW buzz as a family vehicle.

My friend drives a LC 100 with A/T (supercharged it too), and told me about another friend of his who imports and sells, and that there was a vehicle I might fancy. Come to find out it was a 98’ LC 100 diesel. However, what sold me was the M/T.

Since purchase, I bought method wheels, 33” Michelins, timing belt replaced, serviced the AHC (with new fluid, OEM globes), new OEM coil springs for the rear, OEM shocks (front and rear), OEM hood and trunk struts, OEM cup holders, Switched to OEM horn also found in Gen 6 4Runner, OEM side deflectors, OEM Prius rear wiper, Alpine head unit with wired CarPlay, oil changes and servicing Etc.

It’s finally come to life and ready for family adventures.

What year is yours? I hadn't really looked any other bays aside from mine, crazy how different the motor bay is even with the cover off

Yours looks like a V8 gasoline engine (2UZFE), mine is an inline 6 turbodiesel engine (1HDFTE) from 1998. What you see in the picture is the actual, original look of the engine, no covers.
