Hello,

I was recently topping off my tank from a 5 gallon gas can when the safety nozzle fell apart and a thin plastic piece fell into the fuel filler tube on my 2017 LX570. The piece looked like it was a few inches long and white plastic, but it fell in pretty fast and I didn’t get a great look. I think it is triggering the auto shutoff at the gas pumps.

I’ve done a few quick searches, but I haven’t found a way to remove the filler tube. Does anyone know how? Or would a boroscope be a better place to start?

Thanks!

I'd start with a bore scope. That should help you determine whether it's worth trying to fish it out or go straight to the connection at the tank.

If it somehow made it all the way into the tank I'd personally just ignore it.. shouldn't hurt anything. But if it's anywhere between the fill neck and tank, I'd want it out of there to ensure it doesn't impact fuel fill rate.

Good lord, a new way for the government to totally screw you. As if the gas guzzler tax wasn’t enough the EPA gas nozzle from hell is sabotaging V8’s.

Bore scope would also be my first move. If you don’t have one there are some good cheap options on amazon, this one has a hook attachment.

Yes, bore scope might be a good start. Numerous cheap options on Amazon to turn your smartphone into a high quality scope.

Pulling the fill neck is not terrible if you needed to go there.

Though it's very possible the foreign object has found it's way into the tank. Pulling the tank isn't horrible either.

Thanks, all! And thanks TeCKis300! Hopefully I don't need those videos, but great to know they are there. I wonder if the AHC will make the filler neck any more difficult? We'll see, bore scope is on the way.

No real concern. AHC elements are behind the fill tube.
