Yeah, I like the 62 style light set up as well.

Hey solidfrontaxle, check this out .

SHWING!!!!!

Yes please.

If you go four square, I would recommend the Bosch H4 and H1 units (like Tapage has?). I put them in my 62 (link in sig line) and love them. I have no interest in adding white aux. lights after doing this upgrade.

I have 4 H4 ready headlamps ( 2 Bosh and 2 Hella ) with all 4 bosh 100/90 bulbs ..

Some systems cancel the low beam lamp when the highs go on.

In my case and the diference is, factory my HDJ-80 low beams use only the outside H4 headlamps .. and hi beam, use all 4, but the innsers are H3.

Now I have all 4 iluminated in Low Beam and Hi beam also .. so I have double of ilumination " power " in low beams ..

How do you dim for oncoming vehicles? With 4 lamps on - even correctly aimed - it would be annoying. Here in the US, it would also be illegal for safety reasons.

the legal theme .. mmm well down here I'm the most conservative around here .. there are common super duper HID system installed on cars that are not ready for use 'em .. and well you can't see anything if you found 'em in the street ..

I can't DIM my lights .. are not a real problem .. I need to take the promised pics ..

Here are my pics .. not the best that I can take but ..

I need to take some pics of the low and hi beams in a dark flat road .. coz that last pics are in a hill so you can apreciate the long pathern of the ilumination ..

Lets dredge this thread and add some pics and part numbers.
I have collected most of the parts to do this conversion on my 93 but haven't had the time yet.
One more stone in the unitized lamps and I will have to do it.
I have yet to recieve the parking (corner lamps) from AUS. They are different from lamps on USA spec 80.
The corner lamp part numbers on the EPC pic are the ones I figure are required but given that there are so many different specs and trims it is a little hard to be 100% certain.

Really the only parts that need to come out of Japan or AUS are the large plastic brackets, the chrome trims (headlamp doors) and the Corner lamps. The misc hardware and buckets, rings etc are all good US parts. Check with Dave at Japan 4x4 or MOT.

Bottom line, double check with the parts seller before ordering to make sure the number jives.

Holy cow! This thread just got some awesome tech. Might be a good thing for the FAQ?

It's posible .. but keep in mind that are not common find 'em down here .. yes are many but are in 100% DD Cruiser and are still function fine .. and in the junk yards you found crashed Cruisers .. that are more prone to be crashed in the front ..

I know I buddye that it's parting out a 80 series .. so he myabe have those complete square asembly..

You ever talk to your buddy that's parting out the 80...? See if its got the square headlight assembly... I'm working on operation disguise my 80 as a foreigner...

Okay, go ahead and flame me but you are all absolutely crazy, LOL

Here the high trim cruisers came with the headlamps like in the states but with the E version which are for left hand driving using a H4 bulbs on the outside beams and the H1 bulbs for the inner high beams.

Low trim came with the left hand driving E type rectangular headlamps with the same H4 bulb for the outer and H1 bulb for the inner high beam.

There is absolutely no comparation between them as we are all aware, the single bigger headlamp is waaaay better than the quad lamp setup.

The bigger reflector throws a lot better low beam ilumination than the quad plus the fact that you can fit it with high wattage H4 bulb without any bulb cooling concern once you upgrade the wiring and the bulb plug.

The inner high beam is also a lot better than the inner OEM rectangular lamp, and that's something well proven here.

I have the upgraded wiring, 90/100 W for the outer lamps and 100W for the inner lamps and when I hit the high switch, my 100W H4 high beam work together with the inner 100W high beam giving me a superb close and far range, and melt any bug who had the bad luck of land on any of them !!!!!!

My .02 cent, get the south america/europe E lamps , they will look just like the OEM, okay I agree no wow factor but no cops attention and you get the best ilumination or replace your headlamps with the proyector low beam combo with HD conversion as some one in the forum did.

Bringing this back, since it looks like I'm finally getting an 80 (Texus's LX450 :grinpimp:). Anything going to be different for a Lexus as far as wiring, fitment, or mounting? Or will it not even work at all?

As far as sourcing parts, surely there must be overseas mudders who have upgraded their "4 square" to the US type and have everything lying around? (Feel free to PM me if you do! :bounce:)

I don't think any will be diferent in the Lexus setup ..

Lying around here at least not .. but as same as you probable could do I can order it throught local Toyota Dealer

Sorry for reurrecting this old thread, but I am trying to get these "quad" headlights and wanted to make sure that I've got the correct PN's for all the pieces.

I did both my own research and also took advantage of Sheldon's posting above.

And for the corner markers 81610-60061 and 81620-60041 they were both superceded by 81610-60071 and 81620-60051, respectively.

And on ToyoDIY, when I did a search with the earlier (-'94) set up with less chrome, it yielded no less than four different PN's per side (LAMP ASSY, PARKING AND CLEARANCE, RH/LH).

81610 LAMP ASSY, PARKING AND CLEARANCE, RH
81610-60060 HDJ80..GEN; FJ80, HDJ80..GX..(EFI, TD2); FJ80, FZJ80, HZJ80..(GX, VX)..(ARL, GEN)..(CBR, DSL)

81610-60061 HDJ80..GX; FZJ80..4FC..GX; FZJ80, HDJ80..VX..GEN..(EFI, TD2); FZJ80, HZJ80..5F..(GX, VX)..(ARL, GEN)

81620-60042 HDJ80..LHD; FZJ80..4FC..VX..GEN; HDJ80..RHD..5F..TD2; FZJ80, HDJ80..GX..(ARL, GEN)..(EFI, TD4); FZJ80, HZJ80..5F..(GX, VX)..(ARL, GEN)..(CBR, DSL)

So, am I correct to assume that I need the bottom PN's for both side with/for "2-RECTANGULAR HEAD LAMP TYPE" or one of the others???

I don't care if they have the extra chrome or not as even if they did I would endure it or sand it down and paint over it, etc... as long as they fit with the quad headlights.

ANYWAY, if any of you have any insight I would appreciate that very much.

If not, I would just have to make sure that I place order when I'm having a REALLY good day and hope that the Lady Luck will smile upon me! :hillbilly:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Wow I never knew there was a difference between US and Foreign headlights it looks like mine are square I will have to take some pics once my neighbors US 80 gets here since mine is from Panama and compare.

Alright, I searched the **** out of this one...

When (not if :)) I get an 80 I want to swap out the headlights for the foreign four lamp square headlights (FJ62 style). I don't care what y'all say, it makes the Cruiser look 1000x better.

Where do I get parts and what is involved in the conversion? Am I better off getting 62 lights and bezels and fabbing something rather that ordering overseas parts?
Are the bulbs (or whatever I would need to replace when it burns out) easily obtainable in the US? I assume they are just the same as the 62 uses?
ues the 62'S square lights and get the 80 frames and surrounds and use h4 55/60uv cut hella 50% brighter globes and they will be brighter then the std US lights im in the process of building projector units to fit the high low outer for my aussie crusier but im waiting for a repiarer to get some hid projectors for me for free so i can play with them

Pics are nice but the PN's would be better. :hillbilly:

I think you have enough lights on your rig already. :D

I would be curious to see how your projector project goes though as I would like to do the same. I hope there is enough clearance behind the light!

There's a company called "Starr" headlights or something like that that manufactures/sells bi-xenon projector headlights that would fit these quad-headlights.

I requested them some info., such as identifying the manufacturer of the proejctors (Bosch, Hella, etc...) as well as providing me some pics of the cut-off's, etc...

That was weeks ago and I have yet to hear from them.
