My dream tires are 255/85 R16 and find some 16 inch wheels that fit the 60 but don't need spacers, but right now I can't afford to be picky. Eventually I want to find e-locked fj80 4:10s for the 60, but that will have to be later too.

Yeah I did and its still sitting in the back of the truck waiting on motivation to build

sell it with the rear. Get the ARB and small compressor.
Not really entirely sure why you don't throw an Aussie or spartan in there since you're running manny hubs...

more than 1 person has said its hard to steer a fully locked front axle when 4wd is engaged.

Yeah, and I have never wheeled one either. (sarcasm).
I've driven drive-flanged 80's with these lockers down the road. It pulls under load, but is managable.
How many have you wheeled one of these lockers on these forums?

Fact is: an auto-locker let's go when turned. Don't confuse how a selectable locker like the e-locker and ARB versus a "lunchbox" locker like the aussie/spartan.

I've heard people say what you're trying to say, but I go with my experience, and what a whole buttload of folks do on the trail.

I have driven Lincoln locked jeeps on the trail that are a pain in the butt to steer in tight situations, I know not the same. I have also driven the auto lockers and had them lock/unlock in the wrong instance, mainly in a real slick situation (mud) going uphill close to the edge of a cliff

Eric is just looking to pick a fight.

when I was talking about putting the locked front axle in He told me about how hard it is to steer and how wagons are too big to wheel locked front and rear if you dont want to have body damage.

I tried to find the post to quote but we talk about "lock" "locked" "locker" etc too often to find what I am thinking about.

Keith could probably find it.

I have an unnatural ability to remember useless information, like that statement.

Welded (Lincoln locked) are major PITA's... they are the same as selectable without the selectable option. They are not auto lockers. I will give you that auto-lockers will unlock in some situations that you don't want them to.

I'm not looking to pick a fight, only defending the option that A LOT of folks use. And one that I've gone to, even after having ARB lockers. Would I rather have ARB's? Yes. But the cost far outweighs the benefits.
I'd never have an e-locker unless I had less than 35" tires, which at that size, I'd never be on obstacles that even require a locker at all.

I'm not looking to pick a fight, merely defending an aussie up front.
As for body damage... YES, you lock the front and you can start looking for body damage shortly after, cause you will start getting into situations you'd never guessed. That has nothing to do with the type of locker you have.

let's not make the clubhouse section like the 80 section. use what you want, and I'll use what I want. We wheel differently.

I have definitely debated the lunchbox up front especially with the $200 price tag.

My original point was: you have manual hubs now and P/T xfer case... you are a prime candidate for it. Alls you need is the $200 locker. done.

and mtnmort throwing them 80 series axles under the 60 will effectively be upgrading his gear ratio... making that 2F love him... that's a good upgrade!

That's the plan for my 60. A 5 speed with 4:10s and 33s. I want this for more overland stuff and a daily driver. As soon as I sell my tacoma and finish rebuilding the transmission and transfer case I will start daily driving this. Hopefully the Tacoma will sell soon.
