Fog Relay Part #

Update 4/8/2012

Fog lights are workin on both sides!!:steer:

Installed the missing relay on the back side of the junction box and I can tell you it's the one with two prongs at the bottom not 3. Scratched my left hand all to heck but im fog light equipped and I'm ready for turkey season.

Do you have the part no for the relay you used?

The part the dealer sold for FR Fog Relay is 90080-87010 its grey and has four prongs (2 on Bottom vertical, 2 on top horizontal). Working now on getting access to the backside of the harness.

I did check power at the lights and tester indicated no power, fuse is OK, Bulbs test OK as well.

Followed the process and used the diagram uHu provided. Sure enough no relay in that position. Installed the relay and lo and behold the lights now work. No way someone removed this just too hard to get to and no reason for removal. Must have been missed at the factory during the build. Either way glad I have this checked off the list.

DuckLN & DanInDenver - Any secrets for getting the junction box out? Have been fighting with it for a couple of hours now and all I have to show for it is a mess. I’ve got the top and bottom nuts off and un-plugged everything but two connections, one at the top and the other at the bottom that I can’t figure out how to disconnect. The box is loose, just can’t seem to get it past all of the wiring harnesses.

It never came all the way off for me. Just above the bottom bolt is a line in the plastic. In pulling at the junction box I broke the the plastic at that line.
I was only able to just squeeze my hand behind the panel, it never came off. By using touch while looking at the diagram i was able to find the location for the relay, took a few tries to get it to seat correctly in the right place.

Well I tried to change this out tonight - mother of sweet divine Jesus is that a funny place to put relays - I gave up in the end as I was getting more and more frustrated and was going to start breaking things. Has anyone with a UK RHD Amazon gotten to the relays? Did you take the dash apart? I unplugged most of the wiring to the board but to get to the top nut seems impossible without major strip down of the car. I am amazed that they would put relays in such a hard to reach place.

Holy Thread Resurrection Batman!
Long time lurker. Made an account just to post to this thread, which was super helpful, since I bought a LC100, 01/2000 production recently.

I had the no fogs issue. No 12v at the lamp connection. 12v on both sides of the fuse.... searched and searched started tracing then started searching online....found this thread.

Took a chance and undid the top and bottom 10mm nuts on the studs holding the fuse box, pulled the bottom half of the harness connections off, this left me just enough room to jam my phone back there on video and see NO RELAY...

Look up Toyota relay....100 bucks!?!?! Autozone has part 20382... 15 bucks and some arm scratches later, working fogs. I had to slide my hand in there and had just enough room to jam it in by feel.

Thanks to all who posted!

You’re welcome. More light is safer and better and we’ll call that a win!

Great job finding this thread btw

Stumbled across this thread as I also have no fog lights...............What was the relay part# and where did you find it?

I’m continually amazed at the value of forums! Another great job discovering this thread.

No but it shouldnt be difficult to find. Maybe the part in post #21 above is correct.

The relay is located on the back side of the kick panel where you can’t see it. You can reach your fingers back there and feel where it goes and press a relay in when you get it. Good luck!

Update: Those are the correct P/Ns I used a bore scope, made it easier to see what I was doing. I still cant wrap my head around how this missing relay was never missing................for 22 years? makes no sense

Thank you to all others who posted about this.

When I bought my 2000 LC in 2019, the original owner told me the fog lights never worked.

Well... I finally went to pull the panel to see if the Front Fog Light relay was there, or if it rattled and thus needed to be replaced.

I eventually gave up on detaching the yellow wiring harness from the panel. But I was able to get all the other wiring harness adapters and wiring holder clips off. And when I then pulled the panel off the three bolts and into the floor... yes, the back of it was missing the Front Fog Light Relay in the slot for R7 (and the RR HTR relay, and a few others).

I inserted a "WVE 1R1696" relay into R7, disconnected the negative battery cable (probably should have done that first), put everything back, washed the blood of my hands and....

Let there be light!

I wonder how much $ I just saved by doing this myself????
Maybe enough to buy 5 new tires???
:)

I'm surprised how many Toyota's left the factory missing this relay. Great job getting that panel out! I used a bore scope to find the correct slot, a real pain. You saved hundreds.

My fog lights used to work. After reading how everyone else solved it at the relay I bought me a relay, went through the torture of semi-removing the junction box, replacing the relay, and then carefully reinstalling the junction box with all its clips and connectors... still no fog lights. The old relay tested good. I already had the new relay (Denso part, see above) so I installed it.

I guess that's what I get for not properly diagnosing the problem. Time to take the steering column apart and check the switch, which should be a lot easier than what I just went through.

I did! It was the switch, which turns out to be really simple to replace: 3 screws and a few clips is all it takes to get into the steering column. Then it's another couple of screws and an electrical connector to remove the switch. About 5 minutes of effort. Took the old switch out, it tested as bad. Spent about $40 on a used replacement on eBay (PN 84140-33020). Another 5 minutes to install and put everything back together. Way easier than replacing the relay AND it fixed the problem.
