You do know it snows down there as well!

Come on down to the ABQ 505...
We'll do what we can...
Yup, we've had record breaking snowfall this year...
I heart El Nino...

Yup. Luckily, it's at higher elevations.....

:flipoff2:

You're just jealous that I'm not moving to BOS.....my brother lives in Medford....he told me where you live...

:flipoff2:

You might want to talk to Dan and get your facts straight Columbo. He had an hour and a half commute last week because of it.:flipoff2:

That's 'cause Dan likes to drive in lo range in reverse and only make right turns just to make life a challenge...

I'm rather glad you are OK. Everyone says that, but I have not seen any solutions offered. Check out the "Sunny Belly Pix thread on MUD. That is my truck. My Bro had it and rolled it, I bought it and fixed it.
He was having fun when his mishap occured in a canyon. You didn't even get to have that dignity! It looks like you were on pavement. That sucks.
From what I can see in pix, your roof is not down near as much as mine was. You may have body damage over more of the body than I had, but it is not as deep. It is all fixable.
My roof was crushed 4-6" at the windshield. It was pretty much a straight line from the back of the rear doors to the front of the hood. Both "A" pillers were crushed 6 inches and both "B" pillars were bent. The "B" piller was bowed out in the middle on both sides. The LF door upper frame was seriously bent. The left quarter was flattened two inches in from location. The left doors and fender were severely damaged. The hood was covered with dents across the front.
I straightened all of the metal on the truck. I removed the interior and pressed it all back into shape. The only metal that is not original on the truck is the small pieces used to weld up the holes where the flares and roof rack used to be. My parts list for the repair was; Left taillight, Left door glass, Windshield, Left rain gutter trim, Mirror shell and LF door handle. Also; Body filler, Primer and paint.
Tools were a 10-ton port-a-power hydraulic ram from Harbor Freight ($120), a four ton come-a-long, several hammers, a lot of 2x4's cut on the table saw to fit certain body structures for pushing, an old seat belt or three, common air impact wrenches and sockets, wrenches prybars.

Been busy at work and just saw this thread. Man, glad you and the pooch are ok! Sorry to hear about your 80. tho. Hope you're able to get the rig back on the road soon. Be sure to keep us posted.

Seen a lot of vehicles in that condition or worse here lately as well. Situations like yours can happen so fast on the highway in those conditions. I usually stick to the side streets when commuting during snow/ice storms. Fortunately, I live close enough to work that it only adds about 10 min to the drive.

Just so ya know...

There is a mountain range that runs North-South right through the middle of the Albuquerque area.

The city is on the West side of the mountains. This year is #2 since recorded history of snowfall and we have had (officially ~27") Snowfall levels are measured at the airport. I live in the foothills next to the Sandia mountains and have had over 36" at the house. Several 'Mud members (including alia176) live on the East side and they have had significantly more snow on that side of the mountains.

The good news is that any snow generally melts off the following day; this year being an exception. More good news is that there is plenty of snow for the NM ski areas, including Sandia peak ski area which is a short tram ride to the peak. When we get good snow in the mountains, we are pretty sure they won't close the forests during prime wheeling and camping season.

Exactumundo....

Anyway, I don't do windows, I don't do dishes and I don't deal with insurance people if I don't have to.

Besides, I have good access to tons of good scrap metal and fabrication tools to re-make this rig as I see fit.

same.. took full converage off the day it was paid for.... sorry to hear of the troubles... you will love it out west. High desert is great. good luck with the truck and head.

cheers

glad your ok. keep the cruiser....

Damn, Onur..... I don't know how I missed this thread.

I'm happy to hear you and bowser are okay. Hopefully you'll be rebuilding your machine, and making it better than ever.

If you need the fuse-panel cover and the switch-blank back for the restore, just ask ;)

Cheers, mate.

Well, I went into the garage for the first time and checked out the truck.

Not good. I think all of the mechanicals are doing just fine. But the front steering is all screwed up. Front door won't open all the way, but I think I can take care of that. It needs a new winshield and I am going to get that taken care of immediately so I can at least drive it if need be.

The tail gate does not open and I am not sure how to deal with that yet. The sunroof is fxxxed too. I am planning on taking it out and basically cutting a piece of sheet metal (1/4" or so) that size/shape and welding it in (thanks for the idea Kris).

Its going to need front/rear rebuilds, draining and replacing/purging of all fluids and a real serious interior clean. It needs a new driver side rear view mirror and a center rear view mirror as well (if anyone has leads, I'd appreciate it).

Since I am moving to NM, this will be the vehicle I drive there. I have one month to get it ready for the cross country trip. I have my work cut out for me.

:crybaby:

Sometime I just wonder about things....I'm very sad and I never thought I would be sad about a "thing"--but considering the adventures I've had and the people I have met and the friends I have made with the cruiser as catalyst, I can see why I am so down.

Thanks again for the kind words folks and the offers of help. And thanks for all of the phone messages, PM's and emails too.

I am excited for the move and I'll be hittin' some of you up along the way to ABQ.

Best regards.

Please define the steering issue.

Please define the steering issue.

TRE's and related rods are screwed up. I think the axle is still straight, though I just can't tell with the space available to me right now.

There was amazingly no observable damage at all to the drivetrain, engine compartment, tranny, xfer (except possibly for the shift linkage), drive shafts, control arms (front and rear), brakes (lines and calipers), etc.

It did blow a bit of blue smoke on initial start up the day after, but that went away after about 5 or so minutes--I assume just burning off some oil within the system.

I'm getting a list together of priority items that need fixing immediately to make the truck fully drivable. Then on to aesthetics later on....

The entire driver's side body is all crapped up since it landed on the driver's side.

The passenger's side is fine (except for any self-inflicted body damage from previous wheeling trips).

Wow dude sorry to hear that you flipped it. It's not as bad as mine was but sucks nonetheless.Too bad it was on the road than on a trail somewhere. Glad you are ok.

1 month to get ready go across the country  you ought to think about a uhaul and trailer onur.

more or less at random i'd have a look at the lower control arms for bends and see if the splines on the steering shaft are twisted. also check things like the engine mounts and wheel lugs.

Wow...been a little scarce on Mud lately....so sorry to hear about it...

Since some time has passed and you are OK, if you can swing it, put that bad boy on a dolly behind a Uhaul (Ok, Ok, a Penske) and tow that sucker to ABQ. Buy on arrival a rust free SW rig for cheap and spend the same money on PM....and transfer the mods over quicker than you can pry bar the driver's door and gate...

again, only if you can swing it, but cross country with the potential to run into big problems doesn't sound too much like fun.

Just $.02...take it for it is worth. I'm glad she protected you so well.

I haven't been here in a while. This is the first I have read about your misfortune. As much help as you have offered to help people, to drive and help them, I feel compeled to offer you the same courtesy as you have given. If I can help in any way wrenching or other wise please pm me. I'm only a state away.
