Gday Brian’s trust,

I am well aware of the frequency this is brought up, and hate to hear starting a new thread - but I need some advice that someone who is very new to this domain can understand.

Since buying my 2002 VX Prado a couple months back, I’ve slowly been bringing it back to its former glory - fixing oil leaks, steering rack, suspension etc.

The one thing that I can’t wrap my head around is the diff lock.

The light in my dash flashes continuously, at a steady pase, during longer drives the light occasionally speeds up the frequency it flashes at. The button next to my wheel does nothing, I hear a relay click, and that’s about it.

The underside of the car all looks fine, wiring seems to be intact, connections are all firm, so I’m stuck for what to do next.

Unfortunately the diff lock actuator is inside my transfer case (yay), so I want to exhaust every possible avenue before admitting defeat and heading to a mechanic to take the old girl apart and dive deeper (not to mention I’m not necessarily fond of the idea of spending a huge chunk of money at the moment…)

So your help would be incredible. I’ve checked the fuse, double checked the connectors at the diff itself, and still no luck at the moment. I’ve put it in low range and driven back and forth, pressing the button, and that also hasn’t done the trick.

Look forward to getting suggestions and advice! Cheers.
